Biography

As anyone who’s seen her on tour or watched a music awards show in recent years knows, P!nk has a bit of a second career, moonlighting as an aerialist and trapeze artist. But in a sense, that kind of describes her primary vocation, too. Over the course of five groundbreaking albums, she’s lived dangerously, achieving a high level of self-revelation unmatched by anyone else currently flying in the… Read more in Amazon's Pink Store

Amazon.co.uk Review

The contrivance level is high on this debut by an R&B singer named for her out-of-a-bottle hair colour. La Face Records' latest female discovery is positioned midway between mainstream hip-hop soul and poor imitations of Kelis-style anger. Producer-writer She'kspere brings out his trademark machine beats for "There You Go", a pale copy of Kelis' "You Oughta Know". Still, that single's more artful than "Split Personality", which clumsily attempts to acknowledge three-dimensional human reality but really sounds like a fit of whining until Pink unleashes the inevitable melisma over the song's coda. Elsewhere, she makes nice on standard-issue ballads ("Stop Falling") and lite-reggae proclamations of love ("Private Show"). "I just wanna make you feel things", Pink sings at one point. Unfortunately, the emotion the cynical track Can't Take Me Home inspires most is annoyance. --Rickey Wright

This is a collection of slick, smooth R’n’B tunes with a funky pop undertone throughout – very different from the Pink releases we have seen more recently where she has gone from strength to strength with a more diverse sound. But that is not to say that her earlier material, on this album, is of any less merit. Pink’s voice suits the feel of the album perfectly, and singles “There You Go” and “Most Girls” set the tone for the rest of the album. As well as funky little numbers such as “Hiccup” and “Hell Wit Ya”, Pink also successfully carries off some ballads like “Stop Falling”. Overall, this will be a very welcome addition to your R’n’B collection.

I cannot tell you how surprised I was first of all to see the producers on this album (Babyface, She'kspere, Trixter) and secondly to hear the songs. This album is one of the swankiest, funkiest and downright enjoyable slices of R&B I have heard in a long time. The title track is absolutely fantastic and the album never loses momentum from then on, Pink even pulls off a few killer ballad style tracks without a hitch.

You might say having Babyface (Toni Braxton's favourite producer) work on your album could make anyone sound good but I think Pink really shines on this album, her vocals are husky but limitless, she can pull of those high notes.

The one thing I was wondering, where has Pink gone since making this album? Maybe it was just that her label got her wrong and underneath this album's slinky R&B exterior, she was a rock chick all along but I definitely know which she does with most ease and attitude.

Pink, you are not a rock chick, get back in the studio and make "Can't Take Me Home Pt. 2" I was really looking forward to some more collaborations with other R&B artists and producers but you've gone in the complete wrong direction and I'm so annoyed about it. However, that doesn't stop me clinging on to this album for dear life, it is pure R&B genius. Buy it now if you are a dedicated or passive R&B fan, you hopefully won't be dissapointed, I definitely am not.

PS. The garage remixes of "There You Go" and "Most Girls" at the end of the album are awful but the actual album tracks are all faultless, no exaggeration they are all fantastic.
