Bought it for my husband, who always said he wanted to learn how to cook me a nice meal! This book doesn't just give you a receipe to follow, it gives step-by-step, easy to follow instructions. It tells you exactly what to do and, more importantly, when to do it. After all, nobody wants to eat the vegetables half an hour after the main course. It even tells you when to put the plates in to warm. A perfect book for anyone new to the kitchen.

I had other expectations from this book, I thought it would give nice tasty healthy meals to do and not only the classic shepherds pie and omelettes- I can't cook very well and always need recipes to produce something decent but I was so uninspired by the book and the recipes given ( and the lack of colours!) that I actually never tried any of the recipes.

I got the book a few days ago, and felt badly let down - it was so uninviting, almost uninspiring. I got it for my daughter to encourage her to embrace cooking, but alas, with it's lack of colour and attractive dishes, this book won't be doing that. Furthermore, I expected more basic cooking ideas.
