Product Description

Abused, unloved and alone. Can't Anyone Help Me? is the shocking true story by Toni Maguire.

Jackie was an unwanted child. So unwanted that her mother regularly left Jackie at her uncle's house. Which was when the nightmare started. For when his wife went out, her uncle's friends came round. He had a Special Room. In it Jackie was tied up and molested, beaten, burnt by cigarettes and urinated on. Sometimes other children were brought along. Jackie got to know the Special Room intimately.

Jackie could never bring herself to tell her mother. She ended up in a home for disturbed children. She ran away, and a life of homelessness, drugs, prostitution and psychiatric wards followed.

Eventually, Jackie sought help. But could she turn her life around? Would her evil uncle and his Special Room haunt her forever?

Can't Anyone Help Me? by Toni Maguire is the inspirational story of struggle and survival against all odds as one young woman attempts to put her torturous past behind her and make a future for herself.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a read !!!!! 9 July 2011
By Heidi
Format:Paperback
This book is an emotional rollacoaster, I couldn't put it down and read it in one day. I was totally immersed in the book and it was certainly very well written. It gave me an insight into the life of a very dark world of a young child and the disturbing events that she had to endure. It is well worth reading, but if you are easily shocked then this book is not for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars so much more than most books in this bracket 12 July 2011
Format:Paperback
I do not normally read 'human misery', in the most they are so badly written and rely on the shock value to sell. There are some exceptions and those are the books penned by Toni Maguire. As with her other books, she has taken Jackie's terrible story and told it in a sensitive and compelling way.

Child abuse happens in any type of home and Jackie's middle class family is no exception. Shipped off to her uncle so her parents can indulge in adult entertainment at weekends, she is the victim of not only his abuse but he also sells her to other peodophiles and whilst still very young she edures the most violent rapes.

But Jackie fights back and from an early age is distruptive. When she leaves home and living on the streets of London she ventures into prostitution and drugs. Finally she falls in love and the book explores her lesbian love story sensitively. Within this relationship she gains the strength to heal and rebuild her life.

I recommend all parents read this book for the smiling relative or friend who wants to help with your child can easily be the preditor and the tormentor.

I don't know where to start, this book had me hooked. Jackie had been through so much and with Toni has brought it all to life, leaving out no grim or harsh detail. Well worth reading. Thank you for sharing it with us Jackie
