I bought this as i wanted a professional level camera with great manual control in a small package. This camera delivers beautiful quality video. For those who like to grade and make colour alterations in post the 4:2:2 codec has a lot of room for this but make sure your editing software can open the files or you have a good video converter programme.
The camera is a little small to make changing manual settings on the move a little awkward but its not a deal breaker. Professional mic inputs are a must have on this level of camera although the shotgun mount is a little big for several makes of mics and needs some padding to let it grip them. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase the only thing that lets it down and the reason it loses a star is its low light performance. I knew about this before buying but even then was a little disappointed as indoor events need extra lighting if you don't want an image full of very noticeable noise but outdoors in good or normal light images look great.

The specifications are impressive for a Canon camcorder of this affordable price for a professional camcorder. The Canon XF100 supports the highest / Full HD 1920x1080 resolution, and amazingly up to a 50Mbps bit rate and 4:2:2 colour sampling.
The BBC accept footage that is recorded in 50Mbps. Most camcorders under 5 thousand pounds record less than 50Mbps. For example quite a few record in 24 Mbps or 25 Mbps.
This Canon beast records in 50Mbps. Also the 4:2:2 color sampling provides twice the color resolution of my Sony Z1 HDV camcorder, and yet the canon is cheaper. Most cheap camcorders record in codecs that use 4:2:0 color sampling.
4:2:2 provides brilliant transitions in tone and colour and maintains the highest quality image for use in post production processes such as colour grading, compositing and effects etc.

versatile zoom lens.
Cheap price,
double slots for the compact flash cards.
