Excellent product at a bargain price - but order the weights, too, 1 Feb 2009
This review is from: Canon WP-DC21 Waterproof Case For PowerShot G9 (Electronics)
This sort of housing used to cost a fortune, and I'm still not sure how canon can design and manufacture something so complex at such a cheap price. The housing is intuitive in design, and will work perfectly out of the box, although I do recommend you have the specially made weights so that it has a near-neutral bouyancy - without the weights it pops to the surface like a cork. As always, keep a close eye on the O-rings for sand and rubbish, and the only slight niggle is that you cannot rotate the jog wheel underwater, which limits your mode selection - the most annoying of these being the exposure compensation.

Canon WP-DC21 Waterproof Case For PowerShot G9, 16 May 2008
This review is from: Canon WP-DC21 Waterproof Case For PowerShot G9 (Electronics)
I owned the Powershot G7 and have recently upgraded to the G9. The G7 behaved extremely well under water and the manual functions are easy to use under water as the Canon WP-DC11 housing for the PowerShot G7 is very user friendly, the DC21 model is the same which is good news. However, before investing in this housing carefully consider the use you wish to make of the equipment under water! The in-built flash is of course useless for wide angle photography (other than possibly up to -7m). For macro shots it's ok but rather limited. This is perfect equipment for "point and shoot" stuff, good price-quality and user-friendly. However, if you are "into" photography you will want to work with an external flash (which fits this UW housing) then you ought to seriously consider investing in more professional equipment(e.g. Ikelite) The Canon housing is not adequate in my view to support the considerable additional weight of the external flash to the small plastic frame. This view is based on a rather painful personal experience - my housing flooded when an external (INON STTL) flash was added. It had been correctly mounted and the housing was in perfect condition and the seal properly greased, cleansed etc. A friend of mine then decided to use the flash with his camera housing (also a Canon original for a powershot) a few days later and suffered the same fate. I am really looking forward to "getting wet" again with my new camera but I'll give this housing a miss. Happy bubbles :-)

essential accessory if you are snorkelling or scuba-diving. really a good accessory. some tips though: if you are in a hot climate, always load your camera into the case in the air conditioned room, to help dry out the air inside. also get some of the silica gel packs and put them inside the case and leave them in there to soak up any moisture.. you can get condensation in the case, I did a couple of times, but after learning the techniques above I could snorkel happilly until my memory card was full or the sharks got a bit too close ;)) dont forget the silica gel packs which you will find in most computer packaging, or electronic packaging that you usually throw away.
