I needed wide angle abilities to film a wedding with my HV20. I did some research and decided on this converter. I'm very glad I did, because it's a very good quality lens, and any distortion at full wide angle is only apparent in the corners of the frame. In a real world situation, you won't notice it. I find that the HV20 has far too much bias in the direction of telephoto zoom, and its wide angle abilities are rather poor, making filming indoors somewhat difficult. Since I bought this lens, I never have any reason to take it off, and mostly shoot with it at the widest setting. If there is any negative point, its that there is no filter thread or any standard way to attach a lens hood. However, since this is likely to be mostly used indoors, I don't think it'll prove too much of a limitation. This is not just recommended, it's essential.

An absolute must.... 14 Aug 2009
I bought the converter for my Canon HG10 Camcorder. The improvement in the camera's capabilities are a godsend. Since putting the converter on, I have not removed it.

On a down side, without the converter the camera is lightweight, but adding the converter it makes it 'Top Heavy' and the camera wants to fall forward whilst using it.

Apart from the added weight, which I put up with, I would whole heartedly recommend the converter.

I've been using this wide angle converter for over a year now. It's rarely removed from my HV30 camera and despite its weight (in relation to the camera) I find it actually makes it easier for me to carry the camera. It gives an excellent performance - no vignetting but you do get a little pin-cushion distortion when filming the horizon at the widest angle. One drawback (for some people) is that you can't attach any filters to the front of the lens. Whether it's possible to attach a filter between the camera and the converter I've no idea (I've not tried). You can see my results with this converter on YouTube - enter '4tnine' in the search field and take a look at my videos on Kefalonia.
