I already had a previous model Canon Selphy, some years old, so decided to upgrade as the old one was slow and all you could do was print from pict-bridge camera. This new ES40 offers a lot more possibilities. It takes all memory cards, so you dont need a pict bridge compatible camera and cable. You can also be creative and add borders, speech bubbles, zoom and reduce photos etc, so it does quite a bit more than earlier models. The speech function is a gimmick, so dont expect much. Having the paper/ink cartridge integral to the machine is helpful, so its easily portable
It may look like some Fisher-Price toy for a 2 or 3 year old (Canon should make it look a bit more serious/professional that is appears), but ease of operation and the results really are excellent. 100 sheet paper/ink refill packs (2x50 sheet cartridges) also mean you can print quite a lot before you need to purchase again. Great for holiday postcards as the paper refills come in postcard format, with the back (white) side being ready to write on, add name and address and a stamp.
Overall, great product with great printing....you could consider the ES30 model though without the voice/speech help, a bit cheaper and does the job just the same!
