I grew up when cable releases were metal plungers and cost a couple of pounds. This High-tec device only does one more thing -it has an equivalent of partially depressing the shutter, just like you can on the camera. You need this if you are using autofocus, especially if you like the confirmation of a focus lock beep. If you own a good quality tripod for your Canon DSLR then this piece of kit is essential to prevent that little bit of camera movement you get when depressing the camera shutter.

At the end of the day it's just a cable-release. But it works fine, and if this is the one your camera needs (20D,30D 40D, and maybe 50D)then you may as well get one to stuff in your gadget bag, otherwise when you really need it...

This genuine Canon Remote Switch (otherwise known as an "electronic cable release") is an essential accessory for owners of Canon cameras equipped with the N3 remote coupling, enabling secure tripod-based photography for close-ups and long time exposures.

Although cheaper compatible releases are available on eBay, Amazon's low price for this original Canon product makes the nominal saving almost irrelevant if shopping elsewhere.

As expected from a genuine Canon accessory, this switch is an essential tool when using a tripod and to avoid camera shake. Unlike cheap copies, it allows full use of the camera functions, to ensure shake free and pin sharp images. Again, unlike the copies, it has a lockable plug that connects to the camera preventing accidental disconnection.
After searching the internet once again it was Amazon who came up with the most competitive price. I am well pleased with this purchase

Using this on my 7D and works absolutey fine, the only downside is the force required to insert and remove the connector, once it's in though it won't fall out. Item was delivered next day and appears to be original.

Top quality remote switch by canon, I bought this for my Canon 5D mk III, What can i say far better than any third party remote and well made although it would be better value if it were a little cheaper than £35.

I think it is often best to buy genuine Canon accessories, although they are usually extremely expensive. The Canon remote switch is something I bought for another Canon model previously, and this one works just as well.

I have recently got this remote for my EOS 7D. I don't have much Canon back up kit as of yet. Other than a couple of lenses. This was next for time exposure and shooting where camera shake wants to be eliminated. This piece of kit is beautifully made. Copy jobs can be bought at lower prices, but will they last well. Slightly fiddly is the connection to the camera, just be careful and read the instructions, then it is easy.
I like the short lead 80cms, appears some don't.
Delivered quickly before Christmas as well
