This book is the perfect companion for the Canon EOS 500D and I have found it invaluable. The author speaks in a very down-to-earth, easy to understand way. She explains every function in great detail, giving you a background to its purpose which helps you make sense of it. As a relative beginner, I have been baffled by the expensive, glossy digital photography books that I've bought or been given. They assume that you know what things like ISO are, and go straight to the artistry of photography without covering the basics. This book does everything without being patronising and includes really useful photography tips and advice on the specific features of this camera. I have used it like an expanded instruction booklet and it has helped me take some great photo's. I even bought a copy for my brother when he got the same camera. This book is well worth the money and it will really help you get the most from your new camera.

This guide was just what I was looking for - when you buy a recently released camera you need an expansion of the basic manual then, not in six months. This guide hit the spot for me and I would recommend it as an easy read with plenty of practical and useful information about a wonderful piece of equipment.

Much easier to understand than the supplied manual and very nicely illustrated. This makes an excellent read for those wishing to explore the art of digital SLR photography as well as a good specific manual for the EOS 500d. A pocket size vervion would be more convenient but the content itself is excellent and very informative.
