Exceptional lens quality
The PowerShot A2400 IS benefits from Canon’s class-leading lens technology. The 28 mm wide-angle lens allows you to fit more in the frame, which is perfect for group shots, whereas the 5x optical zoom range enables you to get up close and capture all the detail, even when photographing distant subjects.
Incredibly sharp images whatever the situation
The PowerShot A2400 IS also benefits from Canon’s Intelligent IS technology. Whether you’re shooting stills or movies, Intelligent IS automatically identifies the shooting situation and then selects the most appropriate type of optical image stabilization from 6 modes. For example, when tracking a moving object the camera will automatically select Panning IS which will make adjustments for vertical movement, ensuring that your subject is sharp and blur-free. However, when filming distant subjects with the zoom the camera will switch to Powered IS which provides a higher level of compensation for hand movement. This allows you to focus on framing the image you want, safe in the knowledge that the camera is working to eliminate as much camera shake as possible, even if you need to move with your scene.
High-quality LCD screen
The PowerShot A2400 IS features a fantastic 6.8 cm (2.7") LCD. This high quality 230k dot screen makes framing and reviewing images easy, even from difficult angles or in bright light.
Effortless shooting, superb results
When you're taking photographs, the only thing you want to think about is your subject, so Canon’s Smart Auto mode removes the worry of deciding which settings to select. It enables the camera to intelligently select the appropriate settings so you can concentrate on your subject.
In Smart Auto mode, Canon’s Advanced Scene Detection Technology automatically analyses shooting conditions – detecting people, distance, brightness, colour and movement information – then selects the perfect setting from 32 specially defined scenes. So whether you're photographing flowers, a captivating sunset or friends in the park you can be confident you're getting the perfect image.
Smart Auto is also more than just scene detection. It allows the camera to identify moving subjects to ensure the focus and exposure are always correct. For sharp close-ups the camera automatically switches to Macro mode and Smart Flash Exposure optimises exposure and flash controls to ensure your subject is perfectly lit whilst dark and light areas are accurately reproduced.
Additionally, you can switch to Smart Auto mode at any time with just one press of the Auto button. This means you can explore different modes and settings, safe in the knowledge that you can always jump straight back to the safety of Smart Auto mode in an instant, so you’ll never miss that crucial moment.
The PowerShot A2400 IS extremely easy to use, but for times when you need a little extra guidance there is an instant Help button. This provides one-click access to helpful information – it will guide you through the basic controls of the camera and explain more advanced features, such as ISO speed.

Detailed high-definition movies
For moments that are best caught on video, the PowerShot A2400 IS offers the capability to record high-quality HD movies at 720p. Plus, a dedicated Movie Record button allows you to start filming instantly so you never miss a moment of the action. In many modes, the camera will even apply the settings from the stills mode you are currently, allowing you to capture movies with stunning creative effects such as Monochrome for traditional black and white scenes or Miniature Effect to transform ordinary scenes into miniature scale models.
The PowerShot A2400 IS compatible with a range of accessories including a stylish soft case (DCC-510), a high-power external flash unit (HF-DC2), an AC adapter kit (ACK-DC90) and a spare battery (NB-11L).

Only small criticism was having to print instructions off the DVD.
I am not a camera buff so will come at this from 'laymans'angle, so can only compare it to similar style digital camera's. I found that in low light it does quite well at close range, it does look a bit hazy and powerful lights in the distance can blurr. I would recommend charging the battery every night or taking a second, depending on use although I'd be surprised if you'd need a second. There isn't a view finder, just the screen which isn't the biggest screen in fairness but we found it fine to use, it is a bright screen so was good in sunlight-occasionally we did have to shield the screen when the sun was pointing directly onto it but I'd have thought that would be the same with most cameras and the distance of camera to eyes makes it rare you'd end up having to shield it (ie sun infront of camera or behind head most times).
One thing I forgot to mention in the original review is the 'biggest' negative for me is that the buttons are inverted which can be hard to use although I got used to it...not sure the reasoning on way they intrude instead of 'stick out', seems a pretty daft design but one you can get used to.
Overall though it is a very nice camera that gives very clear pictures and that price really cant be sniffed at.
Besides that, the flash takes a lot of time to get ready to fire the first time so if the camera is off and you want to take a picture, be sure to turn on the camera some time before that, which in most cases isn't possible so you'll lose your shot. It can't save the files ilke it's supposed to so I lost priceless moments, to me it's just a toy camera and wouldn't recommend it to anyone as it doesn't deliver what its supposed it.
It was very disappointing experience as Canon is supposed to be the best brand in the digital world.
+ Relatively cheap to buy (depending on the colour you buy!)
+ Good set of features for the price
+ Reasonable quality of pictures and 720p HD video for a camera at this price.
+ Small size and weight (94.4 x 54.2 x 20.1mm, and 126g including battery & card)
+ Metal tripod mount
+ One touch movie recording button
- Manual contains information for six other models along with the A2400 iS. I don't know if Canon has some perverse wish to annoy people who buy their base model cameras, but throwing the information for 7 cameras into one manual is a good starting point!
- Optical zoom not usable once video recording has started (only digital zoom). However this is only a relatively cheap camera so you can't
expect too much.
When buying a suitable card for the camera (as it does not come with a card) to store the images on, it is compatible with:
SD, SDHC, SDXC cards, (speed class 6 or higher is recommended). I use 8Gb SDHC speed class 10.
