5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic printer!, 12 Jan 2006
By Mr. Derek J. Hawkins "warmanns" (Berkshire, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Just received the iP5200 yesterday from Amazon. Rapidly dispached with simple on-line parcel tracking that works and gives accurate up-to-date information.

Initial impression is that the printer is heavy and very well built. Set-up is simple to install the print head, cartridges, software (under WinXP)and paper (two trays, what luxury.) Bundelled software for quick printing of photos and CD/DVDs is included which works fine. I was quickly printing, lab-quality photos which pop out in no time. I am a keen amateur photographer and blown-away with the results. Now totally sold on digital imaging and printing. Of course, its still cheaper to get your 'snaps' printed by a professional photo lab but this printer has the benefit of quality and immediacy for lower volume work.

One slight oops! (my fault) I tried printing directly on a DVD using the supplied holder but the DVD had a shiny surface and not designed to absorb ink. The result - a glorified mess (on the DVD only). I won't be doing that again in a hurry.

Overall excellent results, fast, quiet and the replacement cartridges aren't too expensive either.

5.0 out of 5 stars Canon Pixma iP5200 - A First Choice Printer, 28 Aug 2006
By M. J. Siddiq (London) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I looked at Canon after a recommendation from a work colleague and after being totally exasperated with the sumultaneous failure of two Hewlett & Packard printers.

My first attraction to the Canon range was the cheaper cost of cartridges and having separate ink tanks for each colour. The second feature cannot be underestimated having been the victim of having to buy a complete tri-colour cartridge in the past because the blue or the red had run out.

For this price range the features are impressive. As well as the normal regular feed for paper this printer contains a paper tray as well. I have this permanently loaded with glossy photo paper. There is also the ability to print on printable CDs (and they do need to be the ones specially made for printing).

Performance wise it far exceeded what I had been used to with Hewlett & Packard both in colour balance and speed. What you do find is that the data gets sent to the printer and then you get a rapid printout. So where I had been used to the print starting fairly immediately but then slowly chugging through the actual printing; with the Canon depending on the page data to be printed there would be a slight pause and then a RAPID print. The great thing with this is that once the printing starts you're not twiddling your thumbs waiting for the printout. The speed improvement from my old printer has been really noticeable.

When printing you get a graphical representation of the state of your ink-tanks which is helpful and the tanks themselves are fairly transparent. Also your first set of cartridges are generously filled not like some printer manufacturers who will give you enough just to get started and before you know it you have to buy replacement cartridges.

The only one difficulty I had, and I know that this is XP/system related, is that although the utilities were easily installed the only way I could install the printer driver on my machine so that it would actually print was to use the Windows install wizard (and use the 'I have a disc option'). I kept getting some weird dll error after trying to print from a straight CD install but after de-installing and installing using the Windows Install Wizard (even though the Cannon literature asks you not to use the Windows Wizard) I had no further problems. This was the only niggle I had and I still believe that it is system related. I've get XP pro with Service Pack 2 but I cant comment whether the problems I had may have been due to other utilities that I'm running.

Despite the slight niggle with installation, a truly first-rate printer

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, 31 Aug 2006
By D. Wood (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I got fed up of constantly seeing bars running across any prints I made using my Epsom c60 printer. Splashing out on something a little more than a budget model I was hoping for good results. Having printed a number a prints using Jessops I was looking forward to seeing how they compare. Well the results are stunning and a massive step up to what I have been used to...

When it is said that it can deliver photo lab quality prints then don't take that as marketing hype (as I did). It really does produce prints comparable (if not a little better) than the labs I've used to print my pics in the past.

Easy to set up and a good selection of software. As stated elsewhere does not come with a usb lead to connect. Smart and stylish piece of kit.

Seriously very impressed with the results so far.

The only fault I can pick with it is that the closed cassette underneath the printer can hold A4 sheets but does stick out further than the profile of the machine.

Other than that minor point I can thoroughly recommend this printer.
