5.0 out of 5 stars The best printer I have owned 14 Mar 2007
This printer was purchased for the purpose of crafting some family albums out of a few years' worth of digital photographs and so far, two months and a couple of hundred borderless 6X4 inch photos later, it has performed well.

It is easy to install into Windows XP (these things are never exactly as it says in the manual but overall it was fairly painless), and comes with some decent software. If you are like me you may never use software that comes free with hardware (apart from the driver of course), as you will have your own favourite imaging applications already. However, I must say that Canon's Easy Photo Print is a joy to use when rattling off large volumes of photos. It allows you to select, preview, adjust the cropping, and fix common defects such as red-eye instantly prior to printing.

While printing, status of the printer, ink etc. is clearly displayed. The software accurately detects problems (printer offline, cover open, no paper, front-tray-closed) and clear advice pop-ups to help rectify the given situation - disappearing automatically once the instructions have been carried out. When ink is running low such that it will affect the integrity of the image the printer refuses to continue - unlike my old printer that would struggle on, leaving you to scrutinise the quality of the results in order to decide when to change the ink. With this model, you know that you'll either get a perfect image or none at all. When changing the ink, the cartridge that has run out flashes to ensure you pull out the right one - a nice touch. Canon have used their experience to put together a very user friendly interface for their target home audience and it is a joy to use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Answered all my printing problems 22 Feb 2007
Verified Purchase
Been using about a month. It produces excellent prints, and to date printed (standard)about 40 A4 and 35 6X4 without changing a cartdidge.

The quality of prints is superb, most of my photos (7mega pix)were printed without colour adjustment, just brightness/contrast, plus the usual digital imaging controls, cut and paste, cropping, moving, etc.etc

It's a quiet machine compared to my previous, Lexmark, HP, and Brother, and Epson. And fast compared to these printers.

All my print paper loading has been loaded via the tray, in front at the base.

I have used the CD printing facility, and (provided you use the printable disks)it's faultless.

I have not used the Canon software, as most of my work is through a digital imaging software package (not Adobe, I could not re-produce accurate prints using Adobe PS6).

Finally, and contrary to some of the reviews, setting-up the printer cartridges and assembly is not straight-forward. So caution here. And when loading the tray, don't forget that when loaded with A4 the tray protrudes about 4" from the front base,so just insert until it clicks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top Printer 1 May 2007
I agree with so many of the reviews. I'm not a big fan of gadgets for gadgets sake but when you need one, the most important feature is simplicity. Does it do the basics well ? Quite simply it does.

How easy is to set-up and try the extra features such as: software, camera compatibility, duplex printing, speed, CD printing.

Its a doddle and works first time every time. I have to say its a bargain and does exactly what I need and more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great printer 5 Jun 2007
By A. Parr
I've only had it for two days and am well impressed. It was bought from PC World - they offered to match their web price and I got it in the shop for 60 - only went in for a look !

I have had nothing but trouble with a 2 year old Epson 915. Blocked heads, paper misfeeds, general misbehaviour. I vowed not to touch another Epson again.

I initially fancied a Canon ip5300 (my dad has the 5200 and that's excellent but discontinued). It turns out that the 4300 is just the same quality wise, but a little slower (not that you can complain that its slow).

I could get a 5300 for 99, but there wasn't any point so saved 40 to go towards the cartridge replacement !

Its fast, quiet, has brilliant print quality and works every time. Duplexing works without trouble too, very impressive. I can't really ask it do much more. In short, it lives up to its promises.

Cons ? The tray sticks out 3 inches at the front, and it is a big printer, so measure up first. But it does fold up to a useful boxy shape, with no paper supports a la Epson sticking out at the back. And you don't have to use the tray if you don't want too.

There's no USB cable included, but Canon aren't alone in this respect, and lets face it, we've all got USB cable collection by now. It used the Epson's cable without problems.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value and superb print quality 4 Oct 2007
By A. S. Garton VINE VOICE
I wanted this to replace one of those tiny old Lexmark inkjets. I had seen friends and family buy printers over a few years that all seemed lightyears better than mine, and after much searching around I stuck this one on my wishlist. A birthday, some very generous parents-in-law, and I'm sorted.....

Frankly this printer is cheap given it's capability. Print quality, both on standard A4 paper and on specialist glossy photo paper is quite superb. The printer interface software is good enough even for the stupid among us, with more options, from quiet printing modes to variable paper feed, than I can list here - you can keep it simple or you can get detailed. On that note, I love the fact that there is a reasonable sized paper cartridge that sits under the unit.

On the slightly more advanced level, the CD/DVD printing device is brilliant - I'll never print a label again. I also love the fact that the print ink is, comparatively, cheap.

In fact I haven't seen a downside of this unit at all. It's quick, cheap, easy to use and the quality is absolutley - don't care what a few others have said - comparable with professional prints.

Having moved away from Lexmark, I think I'll stick with Canon.
