Canon's High Performance 5 Single Ink System includes two blacks - one for printing crisp laser sharp text, the other to give strong saturated blacks in photos - delivering exceptional quality. The Single Ink System also means that when one colour runs out you only replace that ink tank instead of replacing an entire multi-coloured cartridge and wasting the other unused ink.
Simple, user-friendly interface
The PIXMA MX885’s new Dual Function Panel provides intuitive, light-guided operation - once you have selected which function you want to use (i.e. ‘Copy’, ‘Fax’ etc) only the relevant buttons for that function will light up. Fully Integrated ADF (Auto Document Feeder)
The PIXMA MX885's built-in fully integrated 35-sheet Auto Duplex ADF allows batch copying, scanning or faxing of double-sided documents without having to load them one at a time. Alternatively, when scanning in several documents separately on the flatbed, Reserve Copy allows you to scan the next document whilst waiting for the first to be processed.
Because the ADF is fully integrated it lies flush with the body of the printer, meaning it's easier to fit into tight spots. A sloping front panel also allows for easy scanning and copying of over-sized and thick objects like books and folders.
Convenient, cost-effective printing
With Auto Duplex printing you can print on both sides of the page without the hassle of manually turning the page. This saves you time and paper which in turn saves you money and means your printing has a reduced impact on the environment. In addition, the self-operating output tray automatically opens when printing or copying so you can print from anywhere in your home or office without having to get up to open the output tray yourself.

Set up was all very straightforward; WiFi set up being particularly easy. Have connected a PC and a MacBook and both work very well. The automatic document feeder makes scanning and copying so effortless, with the duplex printing working equally as well. Quality of printing on paper is good; don't know about photos yet. Am very pleased with performance. A joy to use. Amazon's customer service was excellent, as always in my experience. First printer was damaged when it arrived; the feeder lid would not close. As usual, no quibble from Amazon, just straightforward efficiency in providing DHL collection and a replacement printer was sent the following day. The best price around at the time I bought it. Can't ask for more.

This printer replaced a Canon IP4000r that seemed to last forever, only being replaced because the switch confirming that the paper-out door was open had failed.
We choose this printer because it has an automatic document feed (ADF) for the scanner. The ADF also does automatic double-sided scanning.
The printer is very easy to set up - the warnings about installing the print head are scarier in the reading than in achieving the actual task. The WIFI setup was automatic with a Dell running Windows 7.
The print function is fast and of excellent quality (I print cropped A4 pictures from a Canon 5DII). The printer can be away from the PC as the paper output door opens automatically when printing!
I save the best to last. The ADF scanner function is great! Previously I used a Canon flatbed scanner and to scan a magazine would take perhaps an hour with attention required every minute or so and thus the magazines piled up.
I have scanned many magazines in the few weeks that I have had this scanner and it has been so easy. The supplied software allows PDF documents to be constructed from the scanned pages so a complete magazine (separated into individual pages) could be loaded and the articles saved independently. The software is very easy to use. The only issue is that the output tray for the ADF is a little on the small side and can clog stopping the scanner working. Solution: scan a few less pages or remove the pages as the scan progresses.
I have not spoken much about the printing as the same excellent Canon quality can be achieved with cheaper printers. We bought this because of the ADF double-sided scanner and that works better than expected and is well worth the extra money and space that this printer requires.

First thing - this is a huge printer, more like an office printer, so it needs plenty of desk space. However, it feels solid and is well made. Set up was very straightforward and it worked straight out of the box without any drama. I hardly needed to look at the fairly basic printed start-up manual, the electronic manual seems to be very comprehensive. WiFi set-up was a doddle and this enables scanning and printing from any PC on the network. There are plenty of options with duplex printing and an alternate feed path for envelopes and special media. This is not a cheap printer but worth paying a little more for, print quality is faultless as are the scans.
Cartridges are chipped so there may be issues with compatible cartridges therefore the cost of ownership is yet to be determined. Copying using the ADF is as easy as it gets with individual buttons for B&W or colour. The display is clever and very intuitive and the FAX capability is excellent and easy to use.
Altogether a pleasure to use for any of its capable functions - puts my previous troublesome Epson SX515W to shame.
