4.0 out of 5 stars Very pleased and easy to set up. 9 Jan 2009

1. This printer took me 5 min to set up on my Mac and even less time on my other PC.

2. I did not need to install it via USB first (and did not even try) to get it to work over LAN (think Canon may have updated the installation since the other reviewers who mention this being the case).

3. It does duplex scan and print. Or in other words it scans double sided documents from the ADF and prints double sided on plain paper.

4. This printer is BIG and you need a dedicated space for it to sit. Don't think you can squeeze it next to your monitor on a tiny PC work desk. It won't fit. It's a Home Office printer so it expects some space available to house it :-)

5. This printer is heavy. So when it arrives consider if you need someone to help lift it and remove the packaging. If you are used to lugging PC equipment it will be fine, but some people may struggle with the weight and size (don't let this put you off though!).

I spent a long time looking at this an it's slightly older MX850. I decided on the MX7600 as I do print out on plain paper most of the time and wanted the updated design/look. It's a BIG improvement over my old Canon Smartbase MP730 which I had for many years.

Only gave this 4 stars due to the noise it makes when it's about to print (but it doesn't bother me), other than that very happy.

This all-in-one machine does what it says on the box - easy to fax and scan, full duplex copying, duplex printing. The quality of print and copy, even on the fast setting is superb. The machine is seems a bit difficult to set up on a network, but once you get the hang of it it is easy. The only concern I have is how long the 'clear' ink will last and the cost per print in general, but it should be less per print than some other cheaper printers. The fax facility works fine on a normal telephone line, despite the other comments.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great all round machine 24 July 2010
By bluecat
I bought this all in one especially for the full duplex automatic document feeder scanning. It works perfectly. And fast. Very fast.

Printing is good, fast and reliable. Photos are gorgeous, and in Photoshop there are quite some profiles to choose from. Probably picture quality is a bit less that dedicated Pro printer. But for me this is good enough.

As I said the scanning functions were the most extensive I could find in this class. Scanning over the network is possible, but cannot be initiated from the scanner. Multi page PDF from the plate has to be initiated from the PC as well. Printing over Wifi through USB or over Wifi network is supported. Very important though to follow the manual step by step for using the printer on a network over the FTP port.

Enjoying the build and quality of this printer as well. Watch out though, it's big!

Just not up to anything other than a very very small workload.

Very well made machine compared to most plasticky things out there (ben then for 325 it should have been), but not capable of handling anything but a very small workload over time.

The tiny paper tray under what is a massive printer should have been a warning.

Easy to set up, easy to use and good quality printing, but even a modest print run will make the machine quake.

If you eed to print several copies of a report or print constantly, get something else.

If you work near other people, it is so noisy you'll be told to get something else. It even makes noises when it isnt doing anything.

The noises get louder over the months until the fatal last groans.

Error message 5C20 comes up, wont even let you look at other status.

As past 1 year warranty, told to take it to an independent dealer - purge unit and internal errors too expensive to repair.

So unsustainable - otherwise looks brand new! I am now sitting on over 200 of unusuable ink (oh yes, you cant buy the ink in shops, so if you run out in the middle of something, you have to wait several days to finish.

Also, the most expensive ink is "clear ink" the king and his clothes comes to mind.

Shame canon, i'm a big fan otherwise.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT VALUE 8 July 2011
I ordered the Cannon PIXMA MX7600 as we have had something similar before. This product is easy to install and is easy to use with clear instructions. The print quality is excellent and I cannot praise this printer enough.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very poor compatibility 12 Mar 2011

Only buy this printer if you intend a windows only network. The ADF has a separate scanning element - far inferior to the flat bed. Feature-wise it sounds good - but I am going to have to get rid of it given that I've only one windows device on a network of macs and linux boxes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Canon Pixma MX7600 Multifunction Printer 11 Nov 2011
By Peter N
This machine replaced a caboodle of 5, plus a complex wiring loom, which I was using to archive documents with a throughput scanner. In addition it does excellent printing and copying and has duplex. The MX7600 grunts and grinds quite a lot doing its housekeeping and is slow but sure in producing results. The scanning software is excellent once you learn to use it and the images are really good. Unlike the previous machinery (an old HP Omnibook with PCMCIA card, Windows 95s2, external hard drive, cables and an old Magneto Optical drive used to enable a chain of 2 SCSI cables to the scanner, then once scanned, transfer the PDF image files from the external hard drive to the Mac), I can now do everything on USB straight from my i-Mac, and it's more fun and less stressful to use. The images can be linked to entries in my records in my Filemaker Database, and come on screen with 'one click'. Coffee bills expected to decrease a lot, too.
