5.0 out of 5 stars If Anyone Can....... 26 Nov 2010
    Amazon Verified Purchase
We bought this printer as our old MP600 finally gave up the ghost but had been excellent and Canon appears to have done it again. This is a great printer for home use, offering scanning and copying as well and it's WiFi. Photos look great and the software is very intuitive. What more could you want? It's simple to set up on one or multiple computers, is nice and light and looks good. Amazon did their usual, I ordered it about 11:00am on Wednesday and it turned up before 9:00am on Thursday, you've got to love Amazon. A great printer at a good price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Matches all our needs perfectly 3 Nov 2010
    Amazon Verified Purchase
Having previously owned several different manufactured printers we were fortunate enough to stumble upon the Canon at the beginning of the year. Recently, however, as the kids now have wifi laptops and need to send their homework for printing too often, we deiced to upgrade to this model. We are so pleased - it was simple to install, and because we had previously used the Canon we were all ready to work around the software - very easy to use - perfect printing for our needs and absolutely no complications whatsoever. Highly recommended for an everyday printer. The photo printing has not yet been put into practice, but I really don't think we will be using it for that. The scanner is simple and uncomplicated and the software allows one click scanning. Perfect next day delivery as always with Prime - and a very good price. Rated for us 10/10

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice piece of equipment 17 Dec 2010
Purchased this to replace an Epson m/c which had given trouble. Decided on this model after reading reviews and have not been disappointed. Took my time setting up following the supplied instructions and it performed perfectly with first class results. I am not using the wi-fi facility at present but intend to in future which explains why I chose this model.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good product, but wifi needs development 29 Dec 2010
    By Saibyme
Canon PIXMA MP495 All-In-One Wi-Fi Colour Photo Printer (Print, Copy and Scan)

Works well with Mac and decent printing quality if you have good paper, scanning is very good as well.
My main reason for choosing this type in particular was the wireless feature, but in practise it takes a while to connect through various settings and connection keeps dropping. in the end it's too much hustle to try and print through wifi, so I had to use USB cable anyway.
I think the wireless feature is in need of development and then maybe a next generation of that printer would be better.
over all though printer, scanner etc is working fine and not noisy, just the wireless bit

4.0 out of 5 stars So far , so good 14 Dec 2010
    Amazon Verified Purchase
As is fairly common my fairly elderly Epson decided to eat it's own ink and I cast about for an alternative. The Canon seemed to have all the specs but there was the nagging doubt about the price....... the Epson was just over £200 several years ago and this one barely cleared £60 ( the price even went down the day AFTER I bought it... bah ! )
I need not have worried , this seems to be a very good printer indeed. I have been printing labels on Matte paper , documents and photos on normal paper all day and it is producing some really nice , clear images.
The software ( I'm using USB connection) was easily installed with no problems and the user interface is equally easily figured out.
The default setting on the printing appears rather light but the controls to rectify this were easily found. About the only negative comment I can make is that the front door opens itself with a hell of a clatter which could make you jump the first time !
The printer is rather a handsome thing , all shiny black and it came in it's own box so the post-office would have no excuse to chuck it about ( I guess) . Anyway , it survived the journey in first-class condition.
Unlike other comments about Canons elsewhere , this one does come with a USB cable , packed-in with the Ink cartridges. The cartridges are very easy to install.
Now we shall see how long the ink lasts.......

    Update .
Well ,it's a few days later and the answer to how long the ink lasts is.... not very long.Since a set of cartridges is , very nearly , half the cost of a new printer I've been tempted into getting a re-fill kit which has actually worked out quite well as the cartridges are quite easy to re-fill. The printer isn't impressed and now believes it has no ink........

5.0 out of 5 stars Canon can 27 Dec 2010
By CjW TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
    Pros: very neat, small footprint.

Easy comprehensible buttons, sets up with Win 7 in seconds, prints scans and scans to print in seconds.
    quiet and unobtrusive. fast printing.

    I like it a lot -

Cons: The ink cartridges supplied are the medium fill - Higher fill versions are available and I'd recommend them.
(Note: this isn't the HP trick of tiny starter cartridges, where the replacements cost more than the printer! So don't panic)

1.0 out of 5 stars Massive Ink Costs 4 Jun 2011
I used to be a great fan of Canon printers but since buying the MP495 I am seriously considering throwing my new printer away after only a couple of months.

The print quality is every bit as good (if not better) as my previous Canon printers so what's the problem?

    Answer - INK CONSUMPTION.
I used to love having seperate ink cartridges for each colour but for some reason Canon have taken a massive step backwards and gone back to the 3 in 1 colour cartridges. Further, it seems that almost every time you go to print something it goes through a head cleaning process and wastes what little ink Canon have seen fit to fill the cartidges with.

Combine the above 2 reasons with the fact that the price of genuine Canon replacement cartridges is astronomical and you end up with a printer that costs as much in ink to run every month as you paid for the printer in the first place.

I'm now on my third set of cartridges already and only use the printer once every couple of days. I've decided that rather than buy more ink I'm simply going to buy a new (non Canon) printer.

Sorry Canon but this is good bye.

I managed to use this printer about two or three times successfully. Now it won't feed the paper through so can't print. Avoid imo.
