Canon printer inks cl510 and cl511 are okay but do not last long the 512 and 513 have a better life. So I would suggest purchasing these.

When Canon sell you a new printer they supply a Canon PG-510 black and a Canon CL-511 colour cartridge. Well these cartridges only hold 9mls black & 9mls colour ink in them which is written in really really small writing on the back of the cartridge boxes. For higher yield cartridges what you really need is the Canon PG-512 black which holds 15mls of ink and for the colour you should be using the Canon CL-513 cartridge which holds 13mls of ink. There is a company that I have also found (advantage online) which stock the Canon originals and a British premium compatible 512/513 maximum yield version which holds 20mls of ink in each cartridge and work just the same. Canon make there money out of selling you a very good printer (MX340) but then sell you cartridges that have hardly any ink in them (PG510 & CL511). Don't fall into the Canon ink con trap!

If you search through the Amazon pages you will find it is cheaper to buy these items seperately. Even the single cartridges have different prices.

Manufacturers ink cartridges are good quality but seriously overpriced. Amazon offer the best deal for OEM but quite honestly compatibles work pretty much as well, despite manufacturers trying to scaremonger. OEM cartidges come up as empty when there is still a significant amount of ink remaining and the chip forces you to change them.

These did not arrive as a twin pack as shown. Two cartridges arrived loose in a jiffy bag. I was not happy as I cannot tell if they are genuine. I wanted what was shown, a blister canon pack.
I would opt for the safer bet and order separately.
These will be going back.

Old out of date stock? I have no idea since the supplier had removed the original packaging. Yes, the date matters, because its use is time limited. If you hold onto you cartrige as a spare for some time and then install it you might find it does not work. Manufacturers program their cartridges not to work after a given date because, they say, the ink quality etc degrades causing printing problems.
My experience previously has been with HP and included cartridges and printheads which when I came to use them did not work (8 months on by which time is was difficult to get back to who were aware of this practice.
Basicly it is a scam which Amazon should police. It is a scam because the seller is probably selling old cartridges or very close to their expiry date
