Smooth professional looking movies
Your movies will always have a smooth professional look with Canon's Dynamic Image Stabiliser. It compensates for almost every kind of movement from the gentle murmurs of your breathing to the vibrations of a car ride. You can switch easily from Standard Mode to Dynamic Range when you want to stabilise heavy hand shake on the move, for example when walking or climbing up and down stairs, or when shooting at maximum telephoto range.

Big Dual Flash memory to shoot and share
The LEGRIA FS37 gives you the convenience of extended recording time thanks to dual flash memory capability. It incorporates a large built-in flash memory of 16 GB so you can record and save up to 10 hours of movies internally. There is also a removable SDHC memory card slot so you can combine internal and external memory. For instance using an additional 8GB SD card will increase available memory to 24GB - that's a around 15 hours of recording time. Or you can use higher capacity cards to further increase video storage. You can also copy movies from the internal flash drive onto the removable memory card, so they are ready and waiting for immediate viewing by friends and family.

The efficient file size of SD movies mean they are perfect for uploading to a computer or the internet so you can easily share movies on popular video sharing websites like YouTube or create your very own podcasts to send to all your friends with a free Canon Image Gateway account (register your product on the Canon Image Gateway website, see leaflet in the box). You can also playback your movies on any TV. Just connect the camcorder directly to the TV using the AV cable supplied. Memory cards are also so small that taking extra cards with you is no problem.

Ultra sleek, compact and lightweight
The LEGRIA FS37 combines excellent video storage capacity with a sleek compact size. Weighing in at just 225g it is not only extremely lightweight but also small enough to fit in your pocket, so you can carry it with you wherever you go.

Fun short movies made easy
Using Video Snapshot mode it is fun and easy to create great video montages. Simply press the record button to capture 4-second clips, the average length of one 'cut' in a TV show. To make and playback a simple multi-shot movie is quick and easy and you don't need a PC. All you have to do is select a series of clips and create a 'playlist'. This can then be set to music, chosen from the pre-loaded rights-free tracks on the camcorder or the selection supplied on the accompanying CD. Alternatively you can upload your own WAV format tracks using the Music Transfer Utility supplied.

Power efficient with quick recharge
The LEGRIA FS37's intelligent Li-Ion battery lets you shoot for up to 3.5 hours on a single charge. Plus all it takes is 20 minutes to recharge for a further hour's recording.

Never miss a shot
In Pre REC mode, the camcorder starts recording three seconds before you even press the Record button. Three seconds of footage are continuously stored and automatically added to the beginning of your clip from whenever you start videoing - so you need never miss that crucial moment again. With Quick Start standby mode you can also power up the camcorder in less than a second by simply flipping open the LCD screen.

Great results in any conditions
Your life happens everywhere, so the LEGRIA FS37 includes Program AE mode that gives you settings that automatically result in the best exposure settings for different conditions and different subjects. Portrait mode ensures shallow depth of field for a pleasing background to your shots of friends and family. Sports mode stops the action with faster shutter speeds. Night mode is designed to give you great shots after the sun goes down. Snow and Beach modes compensate for bright surroundings and give you the proper exposure on your subject. Sunset mode results in vibrant, well-exposed colors for one of the toughest subjects to capture. Use Spotlight mode when your child is on stage and in the spotlight - literally - and you want to make sure the exposure is right for them. And, Fireworks mode records brilliant images of another tough subject: the holiday fireworks display.

Great Low Light Performance
Some of the most magical shots are taken at the end of the day or long after the sun has set. You won't miss any of them, thanks to the LEGRIA FS37's built-in video light. The light lets you shoot subjects in low light up to 4.9 feet away. So, whether it's a shot of a sleeping baby, or a dramatic skyline at night, you can capture all the moments you want to record.

A world of Advantages with Canon Technology

60 years of lens excellence
Every Canon camcorder lens is constructed to the most exacting standards and backed by 60 years experience in crafting lenses for broadcast. Up to 13 individual lenses can be included in a single Canon camcorder lens, each featuring aspheric lens elements to remove any image distortion for the highest quality movies. Canon make their own lenses and their outstanding image quality is underscored by their use in most broadcast applications. For example programs like Coronation Street, Casualty and X Factor and nature documentaries like The Blue Planet and Life, as well as the majority of outside broadcasts in the UK, are all recorded using Canon's state-of-the-art broadcast lenses.

The power to capture quality images
The DIGIC DV II Image Processor ensures optimal image quality with excellent colour reproduction, especially in skin tones and dark and light scenes. It also uses a hybrid noise reduction system that employs two types of noise reduction - for video images that are crystal clear. DIGIC DV II processing also allows the option of high quality photo capture, separate to video, optimising them for contrast, detail and viewing as printed photos. You don't need to stop recording to capture stills as you can set all key controls to automatic Dual Shot mode, which allows you to capture great action sequences and still shots at the same time. Meanwhile with a press of the Photo button 25 individual shots are created from a single second of video - a fun way to capture the best scenes as photographs.

A fresh, new approach to camcording
Derived from the Portuguese word meaning 'joy', LEGRIA camcorders offer supreme ease of use, fun features and outstanding quality. Based on over 60 years of Canon's imaging know-how they let you capture the world as you see it, giving you stunning details in the palm of your hand. Canon's no-compromise approach to quality, elegance and simplicity is evident in all aspects of the design so you can create exciting, original videos that you are truly proud of.

5.0 out of 5 stars Small, light, heavy on features and excellent all round camcorder., 5 Mar 2011

S. J. M (Kent, England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Canon LEGRIA FS37 Digital Camcorder - Dark Grey (37x Optical Zoom, 2.7 Inch Widescreen LCD) (Electronics)
It was around last summer that I started looking for a Camcorder, and wanted not to break the bank on one as it wont be an everyday use. So after much checking of different makes and models, i descided to plumb for the Legria FS37. The main reason was the built in memory and its excellent battery.

Its maiden use was at last years Goodwood Festival of Speed and it came through with flying colours, and from which I'm using as the basis of this review. The image from the camera, despite not being HD, was excellent and captured everything wonderfully showing all the colours and shapes and wasnt overloaded with wind noise but captured the outright noise of the cars themselves as they went past. 2 other features, the Zoom and its Image Stabiliser came into play, the zoom was smooth and easy to use and after only an hour or so into the day I found myself being able to zoom onto a car racing to me and zooming out keeping the car within the cameras view, and then panning across as the car went past, with the results looking very impressive and clear! If you've ever seen race cars fly past in person, you'l appreciate how quick they are and it says alot that this nifty camera kept the quality.

I didnt feel that the images was affected by the sunglare, which some reviews on rivals models highlighted can be problematic, and with 16gb to use up (and i used less then half over 3 days on continuous use), theres many hours to be had filming! The battery lasts a good amount of time, although i was forever turning the camcorder on/off which might have had some effect to its drain (although im no expert) but for 3 days of this continous use, i did give it a quick recharge only once, but it might not have been needed.

Lastly, the camcorder itself is tiny, my hand isnt the biggest but it fitted very smuggly into it and never felt uncomfortable, its light and didnt make my arms strain when held over-head-arms-stretched. I have no regrets buying this camcorder, it offered everything I was looking for, small and lightweight that offers a lot for its price without loosing the quality. Its not in HD, but then for its price, there isnt much that is.

1.0 out of 5 stars What a surprise!, 26 Nov 2011
This review is from: Canon LEGRIA FS37 Digital Camcorder - Dark Grey (37x Optical Zoom, 2.7 Inch Widescreen LCD) (Electronics)
I bought this on the assumption it would be good because it is Canon. I have had Canon SLR cameras (film type) in the past and they were excellent. My intention was to move up from my Sanyo Xacti. What a mistake! The quality of the Canon pictures, both still and video, was very poor indeed. The menu layout is poor, the selection of photo sizes was very limited and the interface with the PC was not great.
Makes me realise how good the Sanyo is.
