IXUS 700. Canon have done it again!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Canon Ixus 700 Digital Camera [7Mp, 3x Optical] 2.0" LCD (Electronics)
Canon have done it again! A small, compact and light weight camera that is packed full of features. It looks stylish but has an outstanding resolution of 7.1 million pixels. This allows you to use the digital zoom and leaves no graining visible on your photographs. The control panel is easy to understand and use. The shutter lag is virtually non-existant even in low light levels. It's definately a 5 star product, except for the pitiful 32mb SD card that comes with the camera (only 9 photos at 7.1 million pixels!) So you will need to order another card. Amazon also sell a 1 gigabite card which will enable you to take 323 photographs at 7.1 million pixels. The 2 inch screen enables you to view your photographs before using the direct printing function.Overall a fantastic camera! It out-performed any other camera that I have ever looked at or have owned.

Canon Raise the Bar Again.......,
By Mr. Guy Mcevoy "Geek In Denial" (Birmingham, UK) - See all my reviews (TOP 1000 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Canon Ixus 700 Digital Camera [7Mp, 3x Optical] 2.0" LCD (Electronics)
It's fair to say I am an ixus fan - this is the third I have owned in four years - first a 3.1 megapixel, then the Ixus 500. My 500 has (prematurley) packed in so I have taken the opportunity to upgrade. Each iteration of the camera has maintained the cool styling, the intuative user interface and has banged more features into less size.If there was a fault with my old ixus 500, it was that compared with new things on the market it was starting to look a wee bit bulky. The 500 is just the wrong side of being big enough that you have to make a concious decision to take it out. Yes it was 'pocket' size, but only with the bulge. Some other cameras, notably from pentax but especially casio were starting to offer much the same features for the same price or less in far sleeker form. Cannon have reacted well. The ixus 700 is noticably smaller than the 500 it replaces. It is true to say that the new casio's are still slimmer, however you get the extra mega-pixels with this one if either massive prints or offline digital zooming are your thing. The major change that any other upgraders will notice is the shift to the SD Card format. This was an obvious way to cut out some of the bulk. It causes no trauma - SD cards, if bought online, can be picked up at a whole gig for about 60 pounds. You will need the larger storage if you are going to take pictures with the full size settings. The screen is large and clear (though I worry about scratching - you will want a case!), the interface is simplicity itself. You will get stunning results from the point-and-shoot auto mode. If you take the trouble to read the manual, there is a wealth of features for those more serious about photography. I can imagine this as the first choice for serious photographers who live in fear of being without kit and want the comfort of a backup 'take everywhere' pocket camera 'just in case'. The other really neat feature is the video mode. This is a step forward from the last version. You can now zoom in and out while shooting movies. If, like me, you only take video occasionally, then why pay for and carry the extra? - this does that job fine! I have downloaded my footage, used a standard video editing suite and had it playing perfectly crisp on my 42 inch home screen. The only slight word of caution I would have for anyone is that I have had problems with both my previous ixus (both times just after warranty expired!). Both times the cost of repair has been prohibitive (hence the upgrades!). You may wish to research if alternative manufacturers have better records with much loved, overused cameras! Despite these problems, which are to some extent due to a lack of care by me, the working cameras have been so wonderful I have chosen stick with Canon. Let's hope this one lasts longer... If you have bought an ixus before then you know what you are getting and will not be dissapointed. If you haven't had one before, then look at this and the top of the range offerings from Pentax and Casio. The choice on style is a matter of taste - in terms of output I cannot fault this canon.

Fantastic!!,

I truly love this camera and was surprised to hear some negatives written about it. I buy a new camera every year and this has been my best buy yet! The pictures are crisp and clear with great color; infact, I have had people ask which camera I have after viewing my prints as they are good. I haven't had a blurred one yet and I've taken hundreds and hundreds of photos so far for personal and professional use.Although the camera has great functions (and lots of them), it is easy to use for those who like to keep things simple. All you do is turn the dial to automatic and you don't have to think about anything else - just point and click. To view your pics simply turn the dial and you're there! For those who like a bit of a twist - the camera includes "My Colors" which is mind blowing! For example, you can take a picture and have everything in black and white except anything that is in blue which will come up blue. You select the color you want to be highlighted and point and click. Alternatively you can take a picture and swap colors so that everything that is red will be changed to blue (you choose the colors). Fantastic! This camera is great and I would highly recommend it!
