Manufacturer's Description

Stunning images at your fingertips
Offering a compelling blend of photographic features and effective technologies, the 14.1 Megapixel IXUS 210 combines an ultra wide-angle 24mm lens with 5x optical zoom, advanced touch screen and HD movies in a stylish metal body.

The massive 3.5" (8.8cm) PureColor II high resolution LCD full touchscreen ensures framing and playing back your images is both easy and enjoyable. Meanwhile the quality of those images is assured thanks to a host of new and improved intelligent Canon technologies.

These include an extended Smart Auto Mode so you can effortlessly create stunning pictures across a wider range of shooting conditions; a new low light mode, which makes taking great pictures at parties or in pubs and restaurants as simple as can be; and new Smile and Wink Detection Self-Timer for easier group shots and self portraits.

What's more you can just as easily capture superb HD movie clips and upload them quickly to internet sites like You Tube with the Easy Web Uploader software included in the box. The IXUS 210 also incorporates dedicated support functions for the next-generation SDXC memory cards as well as for Eye-Fi cards, which enable you to easily upload images from the camera to online sharing sites via the Eye-Fi server without the need for a PC.

Everything at a touch
The IXUS 210 is equipped with a massive 3.5" (8.8cm) PureColor II high resolution LCD full touchscreen for optimal ease and speed of use.

Featuring high visibility icons and smooth animation with all the hallmarks of Canon quality, touch control is intuitive and used for all functions when both shooting and viewing images.

When shooting you are just a touch away from selecting your shooting mode, changing flash settings or adjusting exposure compensation. A single touch to a face or an object on the screen will also set auto focus. The focus will remain locked on the selected face/object whether the face/object or the camera moves and the exposure always compensates automatically - so you will never miss a photo opportunity and it will be in focus and correctly exposed.

In playback you can magnify and flick between images, scroll display and watch your HD movies with just a touch. You can even customise touch actions to suit own preferences.

The camera also features Tap Control, which enables playback control of images or movies by simply tapping the top of the camera.

Get more into your photos
You can enjoy great group shots and landscapes with a greater sense of space thanks to the versatile 24mm wide-angle lens. With a wide-angle lens you capture a much wider field of view and have the power to create photos that really catch the eye of the viewer. Meanwhile the 5x optical zoom lets you get up close and personal, whether you are shooting landscapes or a child's smile, delivering razor-sharp precision with lifelike colour every time.

The high resolution 14.1 Megapixels sensor allows you to capture every scene in rich detail, ensuring large prints - even of cropped pictures - retain high image quality.

Intelligent by design for the perfect image
Setting the IXUS 210 to Smart Auto mode allows the camera to intelligently select the appropriate settings so you can concentrate on your subject. Advanced Scene Detection Technology automatically analyses shooting conditions - detecting people, distance, brightness, colour and movement information - then selects the perfect settings from 22 specially defined scenes So whether you're photographing flowers, a captivating sunset or friends in the park you can be confident you're getting the perfect image.

New scene modes allow you to create fish eye lens and miniature effects.

A world of options in the palm of your hand
As well as Smart Auto you can switch the camera to a number of advanced presets for the best possible photos under certain conditions. There are 15 Shooting Modes to choose from including 12 Special Scene Modes, such as Firework, Snow and Beach so you're ready for whatever shot comes your way.

New scene modes allow you to easily expand your photographic results. These include Miniature effect, which reproduces the effect of a very narrow depth of field transforming normal landscapes into miniature look-alikes; and Fish Eye, which reproduces the effect of a fish eye lens in three different levels of intensity. There are also two new photo effect modes: Super Vivid and Poster Effect.

Improved shots in low light
The IXUS 210 features a new low light mode for use in places such as pubs, parties and candlelit restaurants where you can't, or don't want to, use flash - automatically allowing you to capture atmospheric shots. Meanwhile Canon's i-Contrast feature, which is available in either shooting or playback mode, offers improved contrast and greater detail in tricky lighting conditions.

Smart Flash Exposure intelligently adjusts to give just the correct amount of fill.

Smart Flash Exposure
New Smart Flash Exposure improves natural and ambient lighting in every shot, intelligently adjusting flash exposure to suit the subject and the shooting conditions. In daylight, for example, Smart Flash Exposure will detect and eliminate harsh facial shadows created when light reaches people at an angle, automatically engaging the flash to brighten up any poorly lit features. Flash power is also controlled during close ups, preventing over exposure and retaining image detail of subjects shot from a short distance.

Easy groups shots and self portraits with Smile and Wink Detection
Smart Shutter mode brings you a new Smile and Wink Detection Self-Timer that makes taking group photos and self-portraits easier than ever - and with no rush. Once the shot has been set up, the camera records the number of faces detected in the frame when the shutter is depressed and the self timer started - it then waits not only for an extra face to get in the frame but for that face to wink or smile before releasing the shutter automatically. You can set the camera to take the shot anytime from 2-10 seconds after the wink or smile for the perfect picture every time.

HD Video clips with easy YouTube uploader
As well as taking fantastic still pictures the IXUS 210 allows you to capture video in beautiful high definition (1280 x 720 pixels) and the huge touchscreen is perfect for sharing them with friends. Or you can connect, using a mini HDMI cable, for playback on a HD widescreen TV with no loss of quality. Either way you and your friends will be amazed by the results.

For fast and easy uploading of your clips to sharing websites like YouTube, Easy Web Upload software is included free in the box. This displays your movie clips and can store your YouTube log in details, so you can just select your clip and upload with one click.

Flawless detection technology
Evolved Face Detection and Motion Detection Technology finds and tracks moving subjects until you're ready to shoot, adjusting the camera settings for optimal results. Faces will have natural-looking skin tones and can even be detected in profile, at an angle to the camera or from long distances. Auto Red-Eye detection ensures flawless photos every time.

Shoot with confidence
Easy Hints & Tips provides onscreen guidance so even beginners can operate the camera with confidence right from the box. Menu explanations are always easy to understand and when settings are changed, the relevant icon displays in an easy-to-see orange colour - adding up to a sophisticated and pleasant operating experience.

SDXC and Eye-Fi card support
The IXUS 210 incorporates dedicated support functions for the next-generation SDXC memory cards as well as Eye-Fi cards. SDXC cards are for high capacity storage of up to 2TB (2 Terabytes = 2,000 Gigabytes) while Eye-Fi are the first memory cards with their own Wi-Fi transmitter that allow you to effortlessly transfer pictures or videos directly from the camera to online sharing sites via the Eye-Fi server without the need for a PC. You can also send movies wirelessly to your own PC and customize not just where your pictures and movies are sent but also how you want them organised.

Rich razor-sharp images - every time
The lens is the most important part of any imaging device and all Canon cameras incorporate lenses designed and manufactured by Canon - lenses based on over 60 years of experience for outstanding results.

The outstanding quality of Canon lenses is underscored by their use in most broadcast applications. For example programs like Coronation Street, Casualty and X Factor and nature documentaries like The Blue Planet and Life, as well as the majority of outside broadcasts in the UK, are all recorded using Canon's state-of-the-art broadcast lenses.

Canon's market-leading Optical Image Stabiliser is a lens-shift system that automatically detects and corrects camera shake, whilst ensuring outstanding image quality. It allows handheld shooting at longer focal lengths and in lower light conditions without blur, giving you steady, crisp, brilliant images you'll be proud to shoot and share. Developed initially for Canon's EOS Digital SLR cameras in 1987 it is the fastest in-lens image stabiliser available on the market and ensures the stylish IXUS range has a top quality pedigree.

Fast, intelligent processing
Canon's most advanced image processor, DIGIC 4, lies at the heart of every Canon digital camera and delivers exceptional processing speeds. It also makes possible the camera's intelligent evolved Face and Object Detection technologies and Canon's i-Contrast feature.

This camera was bought as a present for my wife. Our Casio camera packed up two years ago.

I read up on all the point n shoots. I decided between two touch screens - this and the Sony TX1 which was about £80 less than the Canon. The Canon is well worth the extra.

I played with them both on two separate occasions and found the display of the Sony didn't accurately represent the colours in real life. (Thanks to the guy in the very colourful/pink/yellow tracky top walking past as I demo'ed the Sony. Not good, and I didn't like the fuzzy screen either.)

I am now amazed by how good this Canon is.

After five days of playing with it I have not yet had to charge the battery, (after its initial charge), it still shows three bar on the battery indicator.

The touch screen system took a little bit of practice but once you get the hang of it, the whole interface is really easy and fast to use.

It's a good size that fits in any pocket.

The camera is quick to react, start up and take pictures.

I have taken about 100 pictures and deleted about fifty. The program mode is easy to use as are the colour swap modes and such like but we won't be using them that much.

I decided to take the plunge and went looking for a digital compact camera that I could use that was more portable than my film SLR and freed me from the limitations of film. I had a project in mind that was going to result in several thousand images being taken and there was no way I could afford to buy all the film that I would need, let alone afford the developing costs so I researched digital compact cameras on the net and it seemed to me that Canon were offering the most bang per buck, so after comparing a lot of cameras by many different makers I finally decided on a Canon Ixus 210. This camera has more than exceeded my expectations and rapidly become my tool of choice for shooting outdoors. It has a good weight. It feels solid and any initial fears that I might not be able to use the touchscreen have proved unfounded. Yes some of the functions are nested within menus, but I can usually find what I am looking for within a few moments. The software is very intuitive and nice and easy to use. Everything flows very well and the icons are a good size. The image processing is very impressive and quite speedy. I suspect that the Digic IV processor is the key to this camera's very fluid responsiveness. Image quality is very good and the colours that it produces very natural and realistic but it is obviously not a match for my film SLR. That does not bother me as I was not expecting a digital compact with it's tiny sensor to outdo an SLR. It more than fulfils the role I had intended it for. I have had this camera for almost a month and have used it almost exclusively on Program mode. I like to shoot at ISO 100 and have not ventured into trying out any other ISO settings so can't comment on those.Read more ›

I took my time over deciding which camera to buy I eventually settled for the Ixus 210. I have not been disappointed. Although it appears complicated at first glance it is quite easy to get used to after only a few minutes. The images are really good and you seem to get so much more detail into the photograph using the wide angle lens. To try the zoom lens out I took a photograph of a small flower on a viola plant. I zoomed right in and the result was amazing. The details was really fine and crystal clear. However if you do want to take really close up shots then I would recommend a tripod to hold the camera steady because at that close range you are unable to hold it steady.

This latest canon Ixus is a superb piece of kit! The touch screen is simple and stylish to use and bang up to date. picture and video quality excellent. Only small down point is need to buy mini HDMI cable to allow HDMI connection to TV- but results on screen superb! Well worth the premium price. Bought for my wife for her birthday She says it is brilliant - snapping constantly with clarity and ease. Uploaded to pc with ease with cable provided. Finding it very easy to navigate with the touchscreen. Bought with the 16gb chip - not likely to need the 9000 photo capacity! Video taking also very stable and clear. Can't fault - the whole package well worth the money.

I bought this for my son to replace the one that had been stolen. He wanted to upgrade to a touch screen. He is thrilled with it everytime he use's it he discovers more features and you really cannot fault this camera. If you buy this make sure you get a case for it and you will also need an SDHC card as their is not one with it not sure how they can sell something that won't work untill you buy a card for it I surpose it's to keep the price down
but in my view its false economy
