Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

This attachable supplementary flash can be used to capture photographic subjects that are too distant for the built-in flash to illuminate. The range of the flash is approximately twice the range of the camera's built-in flash. This figure will vary according to such factors as the camera lens brightness (f/number), the zoom setting and the ISO speed setting.

This is a good quality flash for the money and recharges very quickly. However, there is one point you may need to be aware of is that it will only discharge if your camera does a 'pre-flash'. A lot of camera will only fire a pre-flash when it's in full auto mode (certainly the case with my Canon A610 and a friend's Sony Cybershot), so you can really use this for shots where you want complete control over the exposure and appature settings. It also won't fire if you're trying to use the pre-flash from a cameraphone, though that it is almost to be expected.

There is a 'Manual' setting, but it's name is a little misleading as this doesn't manually discharge the flash, it only stops it metering and flashes at a constant output while still requiring a pre-flash.

So long as your aware of the pre-flash limitation then this is a good quality flash, with a powerful output and quick recharge time, and represents good value for money.

OK - ish 9 Dec 2011
Works quite well as a slave flash but don't expect too much in terms of the additional area coverage you'll get. This is a compact item and has typically high Canon build quality. You need to experiment with its use. Overall I'm quite happy.
