What you want to know without reading too much. It will generally only work with the Canon Grey lenses that are f2.8. You will lose two stops when putting this on which detracts from buying a fast lens (i.e. low "f" number), for instance your f2.8 lens will automatically become an f5.6 lens when using this 2x Extender.

I will use the 1.4 mark II alot as it will only lose 1 stop. If you are intending on shooting slow or still things in ow light then ok you'll be fine as you will if you wanted to shoot bright sunny fast action such as motorsport.

A good purchase if you want the extra length from your lens on a temporary basis but if your looking for a permanant distance lens with a the ability to let a lot of light in then you need to save up for one of the dear lenses or go look at the Sigma range to save a few pounds.

Build quality is fantastic and has the usual weather seals you'd expect from the Canon L glass.

Canon 2X Externder EF II 17 April 2011

Arrived ahead of expected delivery date and in A+ condition. Good shop.
I bought this for use with my Canon 70-200 f:2.8 and 100-400 lenses (Both L class). The picture quality is very good and does justice to the L class lenses. There is nothing to complain about when used with the 70-200 f:2.8. However, using it with the 100-400 the Auto focusing is much slower, but, surprisingly it works, even though on canon's spec sheet it is stated that autofocus is not supported with this lens. I took some amazing shots of the moon with an effective focal length of 800mm. At this setting there was marginal blue colour fringing, but this could be corrected in RAW. Understandably, manual focus is very delicate with the extender and when the lens is fully zoomed in. I'm very pleased with it.
