This is a VERY high quality product worth every penny. Covers the lense perfectly without being visible on the pictures (like some 3rd party hoods are when taking wide angle shots). I only wish it came with the 17-55mm lense.

The lens hood is essential for this lens and does its job well. But Canon should realise that Sigma, Tamron supply hoods and bags for lenses half this price but they dont seem to care about feedback on this issue.

Based on numerous published tests of this lens, it seems that internal flare can be the one undesirable characteristic for this otherwise superb lens. This makes use of a lens-hood essential. This one does the job effectively but at a price. Canon must be incredibly confident to charge such a high price for a bit of moulded plastic - that is in essence an essential part of their product. I use the hood on a Canon EOS 40D and find it excellent.

Used with a Canon 17-40 USM L series
As I use a Canon 7D with the 17-40 f4L, I found that the matched lens hood to be non effective in the focal range of 27mm-64mm. Read more

Canon lens hood
This was just the item I required. I ordered it at 17.00 hours on a Friday and it was in my house at 11.00 the following morning. Quite amazing - the shop were to take 14 days.

It is what it is and it's v good
This hood took me by surprise, I thought it would be soft but it is in fact very hard but with a soft fury inner lining. It does its job well.

A must have
Good product - does it's job well. My only gripe is that surely Canon could include it with the lens when the lens costs in the region of £800!!.

Essential buying for the EF-S 17-55 and with the quality to match that lens.
