Amazon Verified Purchase
Like other reviewers I put off buying this accessory because I greatly resent paying out the extra money for items or features which should be included in the basic package (e.g. the Canon EF-D Camera Focusing Screen, which I am actually very glad I bought). However, having bought this lens hood I now realise I was just cutting off my nose to spite my own face!
For what is basically a piece of plastic, this product is very well made and has that Canon quality feel to it that we all love. The inner diameter is generously sized so there is plenty of room for circular filters.
The inner ring has two little plastic pressure latches which lock the hood firmly in place with a quarter turn, bayonet-style, whether it is on normally or attached backwards for storage.
The petals themselves are quite large for a hood of this size and they cut out most of the unwanted light you are going to get in your average shooting scenario. Thankfully the petals do not stick out to the sides all that much so this hood is easy to store on the lens without forcing you to rethink your camera bag layout.

I prefer buying Canon brand accessories for my cameras and video camera. They're generally good quality, fit and last well. The lens hood is a fairly insignificant piece of kit but strong. I dropped my camera a couple of times (2 metres plus) onto hard paving and it landed lens down (onto the first lens hood I had) - and the lens hood protected the lens itself - and was still intact if a little scuffed up. Then I lost the hood hence buying another one. Amazon better price than high street!

After 2 months, I could no longer put off buying one of these for my 40D kit lens. It is over priced, but the quality is there unlike some after market screw in junk. Twists into place with a firm click. Nice flocking material inside. All round superb quality.
Lots of space for a filter and it can be reverse mounted on the lens.
I can't see anyone would regret getting one!

Does the job
This lens hood is exactly what I needed for my Canon 18-135mm lens. I baught a cheap one before this, it looked horrible and did not fit well. I wish I baught this from the start.
