Ordered the book without a great deal of research before my camera had arrived.
As it happens it was a very good decision. The Canon instructions are OK but this book get's you upto speed quickly.
I am a novice photographer and this book is written to help people of all levels engage with the 600D.
A recommended purchase for those starting out in the World of DSLR photography if using a 600D.

We bought ourselves the Canon 600D as an early Christmas present. Having never owned an SLR camera we stuck to the reliable 'Auto' mode for a week before realising this was a waste of a great camera! Having purchased a few photography books we became increasingly frustrated with author's who told you how to get the best light, when to use f5.6 and when to use f22.... This all meant nothing to us!! However, the manual that comes with the camera is far too technical and didn't tell us WHEN to use these functions! This book marries the 2 perfectly! The author talks you through all the functions of the camera before introducing you to phrases such as 'aperture' 'f-stop' etc in a way that means not only do you understand them...but you also understand how to mange these factors on your camera...AND when you should change them. We have taken the camera out to several locations and have been very impressed with the results versus our week of taking photo on 'auto'. Very much recommended for the amateur photographer!

I recommended this book in my review of the EOS600D as I have found it very useful. It allows you to get the best from your camera, from the most basic of automatic settings to the complexities of full manual. Set out in an understandable but detailed style, as a newcomer to DSLR and photography it has enabled me to appreciate there is a lot more to do than point and shoot. At the end of each chapter are assignments that allow you to put the theory into practice. Dedicated as it is to the EOS600D ( Rebel T3i is the name it sells under in the USA ) the skills the author explains for taking photographs in a variety of styles and situations will transfer to any camera. The book does make reference to the cameras instruction manual but it is far more than just an extension to it. I have found that by printing off chapter 15 the quick reference guide and the Function Availability Table According to Shooting Modes pages of the manual they along with this book will be all I need to hopefully produce some quality images.
