This is a fantastic camera for beginners or the intermediate with the 7 point auto focus to the wide range of lenses available. Once u have used this camera and seen the results when you get to experiment with your f stop, shutter speeds and iso you won't want to go near your compact again. Don't worry about (it's only) 10 megapixel it's more then enuf to do some major editing or large prints this will make your 12 megapixel compact look average and don't forget you will need an SDHC card I would recommend at least a class 4 or higher for fast shooting or taking photos in RAW

I was proud to have this camera, but after a year of scarce usage it suddenly broke - strangely shutting down, only a busy sign showing in the view window when you try to shoot. Only a year has passed since my purchase. Now I having trouble trying to repair it on warranty as neither Canon nor Jacobs Digital want to do that. I have looked up on Internet - it seems that this series has had similar problems with other users. At the moment I am frustrated - just for other users to know my experience. I was a very careful user and cherished my camera - so there was no real reason, apart from internal, to break off so easily.

I used to have an old Canon SLR like this but never really got to experiment with it much as it took so long to get the results of what you had done (ie having the photos developed). When digital technology came into the same stream I got one of the point and click cameras and it did the job for a few years.
I have now got this camera and it had changed my photography habits completely.
It is great fun using it. You can use the automated options which work perfectly well but as I am getting more confidence I have now started to use the manual adjustments and you see the results immediately.
The camera now comes out with me wherever I go - which I thought I would never do - and I'm getting some great shots.
Seems a bit expensive but worth every penny!!
