Ultra wide-angle Digital IXUS. Style you can touch.
The smart, stylish Digital IXUS 200 IS with its new intuitive touch screen is the ultimate in cutting-edge digital camera technology. Featuring an ultra wide-angle 24mm lens, 5.0x optical zoom and optical image stabilisation for blur free images, it incorporates a host of intelligent Canon technologies, including Smart Auto Mode, so you can simply and easily create stunning pictures across a wide range of shooting conditions. What’s more you can capture stunning HD movies at the touch of a button.

Get more into your photos
Enjoy great group shots and landscapes with a greater sense of space thanks to the Digital IXUS ultra-wide angle 24mm lens. With a wide-angle lens you capture a much wider field of view and have the power to create photos that really catch the eye of the viewer. It can give you a much stronger depth of field – so you can make a feature of both foreground and background and exaggerate perspective for a truly three-dimensional sense of depth. The wide-angle lens is also excellent for adding impact to a foreground subject.

Everything at a touch
The Digital IXUS 200 IS combines innovative touch screen controls with conventional buttons for optimal ease and speed of use.  Featuring high visibility icons and smooth animation with all the hallmarks of Canon quality, touch control is used for all commonly used functions when both shooting and viewing images.

When shooting you are just a touch away from selecting your shooting mode, changing flash settings or adjusting exposure compensation. A single touch to a face or an object on the screen will also set auto focus. The focus will remain locked on the selected face/object whether the face/object or the camera moves and the exposure always compensates automatically - so you will never miss a photo opportunity and it will be in focus and correctly exposed.

In playback you can magnify and flick between images, scroll display and watch your HD movies with just a touch. You can even customise touch actions to suit own preferences.

The camera also features Active Display, which enables playback control of images or movies by simply moving or tilting the camera.

Intelligent by design for the perfect image
Setting the Digital IXUS 200 IS to Smart Auto mode allows the camera to intelligently select the appropriate settings so you can concentrate on your subject. Advanced Scene Detection Technology automatically analyses shooting conditions then selects the perfect settings from 22 specially defined scenes. So whether you’re photographing flowers, a captivating sunset or friends in the park you can be confident you’re getting the perfect image.

With moving subjects – Auto Focus is in constant operation so you never have to miss a shot, while Motion Detection technology reduces subject blurring. For close ups the camera automatically switches to macro mode for sharp shots and, no matter what the setting may be, optimum exposure and flash controls ensure your subject is perfectly lit and dark and light areas are accurately reproduced.

You can create smooth, high quality, movies in High Definition, which you can view and share with friends on the camera’s bright 3.0” PureColor LCD II 16:9 ratio widescreen. This means no black borders top and bottom and true colour reproduction. Or you can connect, using the mini HDMI cable included, for playback on HD widescreen TV with no loss of quality. Either way you and your friends will be amazed by the results.

Shoot with confidence
Easy Hints & Tips provides onscreen guidance so even beginners can operate the camera with confidence right from the box. Menu explanations are always easy to understand and when settings are changed, the relevant icon displays in an easy-to-see orange colour – adding up to a sophisticated and pleasant operating experience.

Rich razor-sharp images - every time
The lens is the most important part of any imaging device and all Canon cameras incorporate lenses designed and manufactured by Canon - lenses based on over 60 years of experience for outstanding results. Canon’s market-leading Optical Image Stabiliser is a lens-shift system that automatically detects and corrects camera shake, whilst ensuring outstanding image quality. It allows handheld shooting at longer focal lengths and in lower light conditions without blur, giving you steady, crisp, brilliant images you’ll be proud to shoot and share. Developed initially for Canon’s EOS Digital SLR cameras in 1987 it is the fastest in-lens image stabiliser available on the market and ensures the stylish Digital IXUS range has a top quality pedigree.

The 5x optical zoom lets you get up close and personal, whether you are shooting landscapes or a child’s smile, the straight optical paths deliver razor-sharp precision with lifelike colour every time.

Meanwhile a resolution of 12.1 Megapixels allows you to capture every scene in rich detail, ensuring oversize prints – even of cropped pictures - retain high image quality.

Fast, intelligent processing even in tricky lighting conditions
Canon’s most advanced image processor, DIGIC 4, lies at the heart of every Canon digital camera and delivers exceptional processing speeds. It also makes possible intelligent evolved Face and Object Detection technology, which finds and tracks moving subjects until you’re ready to shoot, adjusting the camera settings for optimal results. Faces will have natural-looking skin tones and additional Blink Detection lets you avoid the disappointment of mis-timed people shots by displaying a 3 second warning if a person in the frame has their eyes closed. Red eye correction is also an integral feature to ensure flawless photos.

A Face Detection Self-Timer also makes group photos and self-portraits easy. Once the shot has been set up, the camera records the number of faces detected in the frame when the shutter is depressed and the self timer started – it then waits for an extra face to get into the frame and adjusts focus and exposure before it takes the picture.

DIGIC 4 also makes possible Canon’s i-Contrast feature, which offers improved contrast and greater detail in tricky lighting conditions. Available in either shooting or playback mode, i-Contrast analyses the exposure, dynamic range and other image characteristics of a shot then adaptively increases the gain in dark areas to produce heightened detail in those regions. It does this without blowing out correctly exposed parts of the image, while the noise reduction function of DIGIC 4 ensures minimal noise in the adjusted areas.

By E. Smith TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Colour Name:Blue|Amazon Verified Purchase
I sold my G10 to buy this because it was a bit too bulky for my needs, and it was the wider-than-usual 24mm lens and HD video which made me choose this particular camera. Having now taken around 600 pics with it, I can say that I'm happy with it. The 24mm was tempting for me, despite having a nice 28mm on the G10, because I wanted the flexibility of being able to get even more on the screen. This has worked really well for me, as I've got some great wide landscapes and it's much better for the typical arms-length snap you do when you want to get you and someone else in front of something nice, as the extra 4mm makes you look that bit further away and slightly less posed.

I thought at first that the touchscreen would be a gimmick, but I use it all the time, as it's really quick and simple to switch between different picture modes and adjust the flash and exposure compensation. I find that I do this much more now, and certainly more quickly than I used to, so that's a good thing.

The HD video certainly looks much better than I'm used to, but to be honest it was jerky on my computer when I played my first attempts back today, but I think that can be fixed by some software or by using a different programme. I'm going to work on that.

Picture quality seems fine, so I don't have any issues with that, although I'm no expert. I use Photo Elements for touching everything up anyway, so what comes out isn't always what ends up as my final version.

I would buy it again, particularly as it's now £40 less than I paid. That's the trouble with being an early adopter, unfortunately.

Excellent Camera 27 Oct 2009
Colour Name:Brown
For it's price this is an excellent device. Have had this camera now for just under a month. So far I have used the automatic and the movie mode only. One small point, at first I was pressing the triangular shaped On/Off button on the wide side. Did not always work. Press the whole button down in the middle, then it works every time. All other controls simple. This is the third Canon digital camera I have owned, it replaces a Canon PowerShot S70 which I dropped. All have been good products. As a simple every day camera this is well worth the money.

Great little Camera 9 Nov 2009
Colour Name:Brown
This is a great little camera, ideal for keeping close at hand if, like me, you are a keen Photographer. I normally use a Canon EOS digital, but its not always convenient to carry it where ever I go.

Results of the 12Mp images are excellent and it contains too many good features to go into them all. However, there are a couple of minor problems. I am having difficulty getting used to NOT having a view finder and having to use the screen all the time (but that's me and other users will not find that a problem). Another feature, that I am not sure about, allows you to change the pictures that you are reviewing, by just moving (Shake or Tilt)the camera. This causes problems when you pass the camera around friend for them to have a look at what you have taken, as the pictures keep changing when the camera moves & also Zooms if the Touch Screen is handled. But all this is very minor to the many great features it has. NB don't forget to buy a memory card, as there is none supplied with the Camera.

The obvious advantage for this camera is the wide angle lens. A 24mm as opposed to most others of 28mm. The quality of the stills and the video is excellent. Read more
