Dave,
This review is from: Canon Bubble Jet S500 Printer (Electronics)
This is a great mid range printer all-round! Thanks to the seperate ink cartridge technology for different colours, wastage is kept to a minimum. At this price range. this is by far the cheapest printer around in terms of running costs (others from HP, Epson and Lexmark cost a fortune in consumables).Print quality is also excellent. Black and white text output is comparable to laser quality and way ahead of competitors which produce muddy text (*cough* Epson *cough*). Colour quality is also excellent, with high quality photos, not quite up to Epson's standard at the same price range but with very fast prints across the board. Overall, this printer is excellent for home or large-volume users - It is amazingly cheap to run, with good speeds, excellent colour output and crisp text of a laser standard! Would recommend.

A good little printer ... until it goes wrong!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Canon Bubble Jet S500 Printer (Electronics)
Was a good little printer ... until it went wrong!! Only 18 months old and the print out for the black cartridge has become patchy. Canon do not want to know as it is out of warranty. I cannot find any local person who is willing to fix it for a reasonable cost. The 'cheapest' quote I have had is £50 +VAT to have a look and refurbish - however, if it's the printer head which has gone wrong (and it looks like it is) that will be another £50 minimum!!! It will be cheaper to buy a new printer which irks me when this one is still new (in my eyes).

Inherent Canon Problem,
By Strontium Dog "The Dog" (London, England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Canon Bubble Jet S500 Printer (Electronics)
These are great printers, however as with all Canon Inkjets eye the printhead with suspicion: these are fragile and frequently fail early. They generally cost more than the printer itself. I've lost count of the number of printers from this manufacturer that cease to print black and regardless of the 'advice' fron Canon's Support Team or Independents I would surmise that this is a software issue. If this should befall you a quick search on the web will reveal that you are far from alone!
So in summary by all means buy a Canon printer from the cheaper end of whatever range, but do not expect it to last much more than 18 - 24 months. They last longer with the OEM cartridges but cost/benefit analysis reveals that @ £1:50 - £2:50 from pattern sellers as opposed to £9.00 from Canon and the expected increase in life expectancy - don't bother, just treat it as a throwaway, which of course everything, apart from friends and family, is! Built in Obsolescence!
