I have been using Canon inks for quite some years now, and have also used compatibles for a lot of prints.
I have a Pixma Ip5200 and a Pro 9000 Mark II printer, both of which use the Cli 8 series.
Some of the compatibles I have tried really do seem to give excellent results, but I have always found that they tend to fade in even quite dim light. Different colours fade at different rates, so I find photographs of people with dark hair end up, after some months, as showing crimson hair instead. Canon inks seem to be much more colour-fast.
If you want quality, stick with Canon inks.

Riddle me this!
Being sceptical about black ink I recently took the plunge and ordered some from Amazon. Sure enough, after a few days the postie arrived with my purchase.
I was afraid he might push it through the letter box too hard and make the ink go all bubbly and foamy(the printers nightmare). But my fears were allayed
when the door bell rang and the postie placed the package in my hand and went on his merry way with a cheery wave and a how'd' y'do...! Back inside I made myself
a cup of tea to steady my nerves before carefully opening the packaging and removing the technological marvel within.
After diligently removing the plastic wrapper and microchip protector I snapped off the orange ink cover and installed the little beauty into my Canon printer.
I then set about printing some photos of Slash which I had taken and scanned some years before. With baited breath I waited for the prints to spew forth and settle
on the receiving tray. I almost didn't dare look. I had another cuppa and rich tea biscuit. After waiting for them to dry and the inks to settle I gingerly picked up one
of the prints and walked over to the window. I was not disappointed! Slash's hair, his t-shirt and trousers, and even his guitar were all, how should I put it.....? BLACK!!!
Deep, obsidian, lustrous black!!! Not your lacklustre, tepid, insipid wishy washy dull off-grey-black. This was proper, evil, brooding blacker than Vader's blackest thoughts black.

Having looked all around for the best deal going, Amazon wins again..Why pay over the odds...Strange that Canon's online shop are selling this product plus others in the range at a very competitive price close to Amazon

Prompt delivery. Arrived minus it's outer box, which was a pity. This may have been done to save postage costs, but it left very little protection for the cartridge.

Canon ink cartridge
Both the black and the yellow cartridges functioned when placed in the printer. They do what it says on the tin.
