Product Description

From the Back Cover

This book has one goal: to teach Canon 7D owners how to make great shots using your camera. Starting with the top ten things you need to know about the camera—charging your battery, setting your ISO, reviewing your photos, and more—photography pro Nicole Young then carefully guides you through the modes of the camera, offering practical advice on choosing your settings, expert shooting tips, and end-of-chapter “challenges” to get you up-and-running with your 7D. This book is for anyone who wants to upgrade from a point-and-shoot, or who wants to jump right into photography with the control and capabilities of a powerful DSLR. Of course, the camera’s manual might explain the basics of what your camera can do, but From Snapshots to Great Shots shows not only what makes a great shot work—but also how to get that shot using your 7D.

I was lent this after I left my 7D Field Guide on the train

This is a great book if the 7D is your first SLR or first camera that allows manual settings

If you have worked your way up to a 7D from 450D etc then this is too basic and you will be wasting your money

There are a lot better books than this for the basics of exposure, apertures and shutter speed and it isn't as detailed
as others on the 7D itself so it falls between two stools

With a newly purchased Cannon EOS 7D, I bought this book to help me getting familiar with the camera, finding the original manual for the camera not very informative. This book did way more than that, it gives you a good understanding of the camera, and you can use the camera without ever consulting the original manual bear in mind that it does not completely over rule the original manual if you want everything. What I found most use full though was the introduction to many photo techniques that you then later can pursue else where, it manages to do all this without ever being more technical than anybody will be able to understand it. The Flickr group for this book is a great little bonus to.

Has all the important features of the camera explained for different uses such as portraits, landscape and action photography. This will put the user at a good starting point for taking decent photos in various situations. Not so much on video though.

Got this book to help me with the 7D I recently brought. Can't fault the book at all, unlike the Canon manual that comes with the camera, this tells you how and why your doing things. Also a nice touch is the exercises at the end of each chapter.
