After about 5 or 6 charges this battery wouldn't charge so sent it back after being advised to do so and have heard nothing since. Have sent 2 emails to try and chase this up but no response. I may just be unlucky with the battery they sent me but personally the customer service is also lousy and a total waste of £30.

This product is a complete fake the packaging and printing on the battery are almost identical to the genuine product however having checked Canons website (http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/slr_cameras/eos_60d?pageKeyCode=prdAdvDetail&docId=0901e0248004cc7e) it is apparent that all the codes match the fake and the hologram is in no way legitimate, having now read other reviews of this product I am astonished that Amazon are not suspending this seller's account over counterfeit issues.

I certainly will not be trying to charge or use this battery in my 600d as shown on Canon's website they can melt or explode rendering your valuable equipment useless, this would also void your warranty as it's not a genuine product.

I suspect some if not all of the product reviews stating the product is genuine have been placed to make the product appear genuine.

I just purchased this battery from Stark Tch. It looks like a fake to me. The text is a different colour to my existing 550D Canon battery. I'm sending it off to Canon to see if it is fake and will keep you posted.

Official Canon accessories are rather overpriced but are of good quality, so buying a second LP-E8 battery for my 550D at a substantial discount on Amazon Marketplace seemed like a good idea. Unfortunately it appears that there are some counterfeit batteries doing the rounds, whether the Marketplace sellers are aware of it or not! I only received what I believed to be a genuine Canon battery upon ordering the product for the third time...

The two seemingly dodgy batteries that I received first of all did look quite reasonably convincing in their packaging, but when removing them and comparing them with the battery that came with the 550D there were some very obvious differences: the dodgy batteries were both slightly more grey than white, had a different texture, featured less well defined text (one of them tellingly had a spelling mistake on it as well!), did not feature a sticker over the indented panel on the end of the battery above and to the right of the electrical contacts, both featured the date(?) "200912" and the code "VLYA" at the bottom right of the face with the voltage and capacitance figures printed on it, and just had an outline of a triangle with a black exclamation mark printed inside it on the 'warning' face instead of a solid black triangle with the exclamation mark in white inside it.

The genuine battery looked exactly the same as the battery that came with the 550D and was presented in sealed packaging that caused some minor damage to the cardboard backing when removing the outer plastic case, whereas the case for the other two batteries had un-clipped from the cardboard without breaking a seal or causing any damage.

I ahve bought this battery as second battery for my Canon, when arrived I compared it with the original battery I got with camera and realised that this one is different, everything about it looks cheaper than original. Then read some reviews on amazon.co.uk, luckily the batery works ok, it charges itself and as I was in hurry, I didint return it back. I bought it from QM TRADERS seller for GBP32. Next time if I wanna have peace of mind will buy only in authorised shop

I saw the mixed reviews with some people claiming fakes and some people satisfied so, wondering if there was just a bad batch I ordered one anyway.

Sadly, I can confirm that the one I received is a fake.
The most obvious indication is a spelling mistake on the battery itself "Do not short or disassembie".
They also weigh different amounts.
The genuine LP-E8 I recevied with my camera (700D / t5i) weighs 50grams.
The counterfeit weighs 48grams.

Sold by Electronics Direct, Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA).

Don't bother wasting your time with this or anything else from Electro Direct.

The battery did not work, so the supplier agreed to refund me. It was a faulty batch and I think they said that product had been withdrawn.
The supplier was very helpful in providing an address to return the battery and they refunded the full postage and the cost of the battery efficiently and quickly.
The rating above does not reflect the product, but more the supplier who supplied it. They were honorable.
