2.0 out of 5 stars No massacre and no dinosaurs! 6 Jun 2005
By A Customer
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
A low budget cross between Indiana Jones and Cannibal Ferox, this is just direct to video nonsense that seems to have found a whole new audience thanks to DVD and re-releases of long lost 80's horror.
Michael Sopkiw[who also starred in the Mad Max rip-off 2019 After the Fall of New York]plays a young palenontologist who hitches an aeroplane ride deep into the Amazon jungle with a cast of badly dubbed europeans.
When the plane crashes in freak turbulance[possibly the worst plane crash in movie history, just check out that model]the survivors are left to fend for them selves against everything you would expect from a cheesey jungle adventure such as piranhas, leeches, quicksand and not forgetting cannibals.
Direction and plot are inept at best and apart from Sopkiw its a cast of amateurs not helped by a awful script.
As is to be expected there is a fair bit of gore from piranha bites to cannibalism but it is far less extreme than say Cannibal Ferox or Holocaust and thanks to some badly mis-timed comedic moments and bad 80's disco music its hard to feel to repulsed by the proceedings.
On a plus point its fairly entertaining if your in the right mood with plenty of crowd pleasing nudity.
Shriek Shows uncut DVD presents the movie in anamorphic 1.85:1 and for the most part looks fine with plenty of detail and good colour although some night scenes look a little dark and grainy.Sound is an English dub in mono that lacks detail but is quite punchy.
Extras consist of a feature length commantary and interview with Sopkiw. He obviously didnt have that good a memory of the movie as both of these are pretty bland and cover the same ground. There is also a short interview with director Tarantini in Italian with English subs.

3.0 out of 5 stars not too bad 29 Jan 2010
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Firstly this film isnt really called Cannibal Ferox 2..this is just a shameless cash in and just made up by Vipco for the u.k release. It has nothing at all to do with the Cannibal Ferox at all so don't buy into it!

The more common title is "Massacre in the valley of the dinosaurs" and the u.s version on shreik show is better than the u.k edition as it features a much better transfer and has some good features.

Well if you've seen the likes of cannibal ferox, cannibal holocaust, deep river savages,Last cannibal world etc then you know what to expect to some degree but i would say that this falls more into a standard action adventure jungle romp (like romancing the stone, indiana jones etc) but with some horror elements thrown in every now and then. Made by italians and shot in location in Brazil with mostly brazillian actors save for American actor Michael Sipkow, it whisks by in a pacy 90 mins. The acting and dubbing of course is atrocious in places and it looks low budget generally, but this film won't leave you bored and there are far worse cannibal/jungle films around than this.

Worth a pick up on the cheap..any cannibal/jungle fan will prob find something here to like.

2.0 out of 5 stars stranded in dinosaur valley 30 Sep 2008

Format:DVD
After hitching a ride on a flight in to the Amazon jungle Michael Sopkiws vacation takes a turn for the worst when the plane crashes and leaves only a few survivors. To make their way out safely they must contend with the local natives and vicious slave driver. Michele Massimo Tarantini does his best to please the audience with lots of nudity, violence and a brief bit of cannibalism. Unfortunately the film is very boring and only the most hardened fan of italian jungle adventures should seek it out.

The first DVD from VIPCO has a non anamorphic 1.85:1 transfer that starts off very grainy but after about 15 minutes it clears up and looks quite good. Sadly the BBFC have had their wicked way and cut nearly 2 minutes from the film. The best option comes from the USA in a good 16:9 transfer and lots of extras including an audio commentary with Michael Sopkiw, interviews with Sopkiw and director Tarantini, deleted scenes (unfortunately without sound), theatrical trailer and a photo gallery

3.0 out of 5 stars Very 80's film 17 April 2013
Format:DVD
This is one of the later cannibal films and does not have as much of an authentic feel to it. It also has an action / adventure element to it with an action hero played by Michael Sopkiw, who plays the part well but the rest of the cast are poor actors. It is a very 80′s film with more of a glossy feel to it than it's predecessors and contains a fair bit of nudity. It's a no brain type movie and is not a bad way to waste an hour and half. The Shriek Show region 1 dvd is uncut and looks great.

2.0 out of 5 stars Massacre in Dinosaur Valley 9 May 2012
Format:DVD
Archaeologist Kevin Hall hitches a ride on professor Ibanez's flight to Dinosaur Valley in search of very rare fossils but before they get there the plane crashes due to some very high turbulence. After the crash which leaves three people dead, the remaining six survivors head to civilisation lead by power mad Vietnam war veteran Captain Heinz but on the way they have to battle through killer Piranhas, Cannibals, and murderous slave traders.

This film was also released as Cannibal Ferox 2 but that title doesn't really suit the film as there is only one very small scene that involves Cannibals and they are out of the film pretty quickly. The film is actually not that violent at all and the sex scenes are also very mild even by the standards of when it was made in the 1980's so I was surprised to find that it had been banned.

Director Michele Massimo Tarantini is clearly not the best at story telling. At the beginning of the film he handles a bar room brawl in a stupid comic style. Another poor part of his directing is when one of the survivors of the plane crash has just been killed by some Piranhas and the Kevin Hall and Captain Heinz character end up fighting and jumping around in the exact water that man was just killed in.

Acting wise the film is pretty poor and B-Movie star Michael Sopkiw is not as good as usual and the supporting casts dubbed dialogue is unintentionally funny. Andy Silas who plays China, the leader of the Slave traders is a typical pantomime villain and everyone pronounces his name as Cheena which I found amusing.
