This superb disc contains two albums, Canned Heat and Boogie With Canned Heat. The first is good, but "Boogie" is a true classic that stands up very well to the test of time, great blues/rock from the late `60s. Every song is a jewel. Al Wilson, Bob "the bear" Hite, Henry Vestine, Fido and the Mole all perfectly compliment each other, and the excellent recording quality and production must also be mentioned. Guitarist Henry Vestine was one of the all-time best white blues guitar players - Hendrix used to go see him play, learning something from his style. I have been listening to this album for nearly 40 years and am still not tired of it. The follow up, Living The Blues, was a bit overblown, but this CD presents the band at their tight, succinct best.

Well here I am purchasing a CD once again to replace vinyl disposed of in error!

Back in the 60s, over here in the UK we had a blues revival led by Fleetwood Mac, Chicken Shack and some others (OK we had Alexis Korner & John Mayall around before them), and in the US Paul Butterfield (do check out East-West as a minimum requirement) and Canned Heat. This CD presents their first two albums, the more traditional and rootsy first album, and their blossoming "Boogie" album.

For me their first 3 albums were their best, but I do realise this is a personal preference. If you like electric blues with a rock edge, I can't see how you could fail to enjoy this CD/download as if you buy the CD, the autorip MP3 comes for free. The fat sound of Henry, the Sunflower guitar on tracks like Amphetamine Annie and their famous boogie has always been a joy to me, and of course there is the marvellous On The Road Again. So if you're an old fan re-visiting the past or new to the band, this album will not disappoint.

For the 2 albums I would award 4 stars to the first and 5 to the second as they are quality within their genre, but as I can't award 4.5, 4 stars will have to do. If you want the trilogy of albums, then don't forgetLiving The Blueswhich is now available in unedited form.

i was a teenager in the sixties and grew up on "second generation" chicago blues such as this, paul butterfield, fleetwood mac, duster bennet and the like. i love these first two canned heat l.p.s on this disc. and as a harmonica player i've always considered al wilson to be one of the very greatest harp players ever and the solo in "going down slow" as my all time favourite. if you haven't heard it (or the rest of these tracks) you should get this disc. but beware - if you're a young blues player this disc could chnge your whole attitude towards the blues. that's what happened to me, thank goodness !

THIS IS VERY ENJOYABLE COLLECTING TOGETHER CANNED HEATS 1ST 2 ALBUMS.
THE FIRST IS OK, BUT THE ONE THAT SHOWS CANNED HEAT AT ITS BEST IS THE SECOND
BOOGIE WITH CANNED HEAT, FINISHING WITH THE GREAT REFRIED HOOKIE BOOGIE
WHERE EACH MEMBER OF THE BAND HAS A SOLO SPOT . HENRY VESTINES GUITAR SOLO IS SUPERB.
A GOOD PURCHASE AND A GREAT TIGHT BAND.
