Product Description

Cane Toads is without doubt one of the most unusual, surprising, enjoyable and amusing films of the year. Mark Lewis (Cane Toads: An Unnatural History) explores one of Australia s greatest environmental catastrophes as he follows the unstoppable march of the cane toad across the Australian continent. Despised by many, venerated by some, the toad has occupied a nation s consciousness achieving both cult and criminal status. Despite its international origin the cane toad has become uniquely Australian yet, for a world wrestling with the idea that we have irretrievably altered our own ecosystem, its story holds universal relevance. Featuring a host of engaging characters as well as thousands of toads, Cane Toads 3D - The Conquest is a humorous yet thought-provoking journey into the issue of invasive species.

5.0 out of 5 stars fine documentary shot in hd. 31 Mar 2013
Format:Blu-ray|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a documentary about how mankind has introduced invasive species and the damage they do. You get a lot of scientists talking to you about the problem and the filmmakers made a interesting film here. The film was shot in native 3d so that's excellent. too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Plain weird 12 Mar 2013
Format:Blu-ray|Amazon Verified Purchase
..but not AS weird as the classic 1970s (or was it 80s?) cane toads movie.. mainly because it essentially ignores the relatively prevalent use of cane toads as a recreational drug among teenagers. That was, let's be honest, the funniest thing about the cane toads film, and this one glosses over it like it never happened. Decent 3D, though, and some of the people are still laugh-out-loud funny.

2.0 out of 5 stars Interview, interview, interview ... 2 Jan 2013
Format:Blu-ray|Amazon Verified Purchase
It's not really an animal documentary like the Attenborough series (by far !). It's more an explanation of how imported toads have invaded Austrialia.

It's mostly composed of interviews (at least one hundred during this documentary). Some of these interviews are really not interesting (example : for showing a toad is venomous, is it necessary to pass so many time about the relationship between the pet (eating the venomous) and its master ?.

About the 3D : 3D, for interviews ???
I bougth the 3D Blu-ray version. To be honest ... the DVD is enough.

However, the subject is interesting and it shows that it's more than dangerous to introduce a species without its predator ... and this toad has NO predator. But it would have been interested to detail more the toad life.
