Product Description

Product Description

Alto saxophonist Candy Dulfer has been one of the biggest
names in contemporary jazz ever since her 1990 debut release, 'Saxuality',
sold more than a million copies worldwide.

Born in Holland, Dulfer is the daughter of Hans Dulfer, a leading Dutch
jazz saxophonist who founded the Bimhaus, the famous jazz club in
Amsterdam. She first assembled her own band, Funky Stuff at the age of 14
and after the success of 'Saxuality' the band went on to tour throughout
the world. At the same time as pursuing a successful solo career, Candy has
appeared and recorded with Prince, Dave Stewart (Eurythmics), Maceo Parker,
Van Morrison, David Sanborn, Beyonce, Pink Floyd, Chaka Khan, Aretha
Franklin, and many others. Candy has had a long association with Prince,
appearing in his "Partyman" video (1990) and playing on the Graffiti Bridge
soundtrack. She has toured with him frequently since the late `90s, and
still regularly appears with him.

'Candy Store' is a great mix of jazz, R&B, ballads, funk, hip-hop, Latin
and more - an all-inclusive formula that's consistent with Candy's
career-long philosophy of weaving a diversity of styles to craft
high-energy, positive music.

Candy Dulfer - (alto sax), Ulco Bed - (guitar), Thomas Bank (keyboards),
Chance Howard - (bass, keyboards), Ulco Bed - (guitar), Kirk A. Johnson -
(drums) and others

5.0 out of 5 stars Great music in Candy's Store 19 Mar 2009
Format:Audio CD
This is yet another excellent album from super Dutch sax player Candy Dulfer. As the title suggests, this is store of songs displaying her range of jazz sax from the agressively funky, to pleasant relaxing, and with some Caribbean soca for good measure.

Typical Candy Dulfer material and style - in other words excellent production, excellent musicianship throughout, with the high level of skill and great feel in Candy's playing, we've become familiar with, over the years. Recommended

5.0 out of 5 stars No one has given this album a review yet? 25 July 2007

I will try to not rattle off with superlatives, adjectives, & word-a-...tives when describing this release; but I must say this album is awesome. I'm not sure if it's because I didn't expect much due to the fact that there have been so many lackluster albums released this year, that I was growing tired of the smooth jazz genre. Well, I won't be so harsh because musicians do grow, and their growth may be in a different direction than where my preferences reside. With that being said, me and Candy have a thing going on *winks @ Candy*, because the things I wanted she was able to deliver. This is not an on again off again relationship where you skip tracks, play the whole thing from begining to end and float. I'm a habitual floater by the way. Bravo Candy...Bravo *winks*

4.0 out of 5 stars Candy's music can stand on her own 31 Jan 2008
By D. Wilson - Published on
Format:Audio CD
The first track has a circus-like assist from a man trying to sound like a DJ which I thought totally distracted from the funky sax playing. If I could edit him out, I think it would be a great song. LA Lights has a superb uplifting beginning with a beautifully haunting close that makes it one of my all-time favorite jazz tunes. She gets more assist from other vocalists later on which, except for Summertime, I also found distracting from her sax performance. Overall: she's young, she's hot, she plays great sax and it's worth the investment.

For the most part this is a good c.d. I am not overly familiar with candy dulfer but I heard a couple of her songs and liked what I heard so I figured for the price I'd give it a shot. I only took a star off because I am not a fan of a lot of vocals and there are a couple of songs on here that for me the vocals just kind of ruin. I could do without the vocals on song #1 candy, #3 music= love and #6 summertime although that is the least annoying. Otherwise the lady can blow, the rest of the c.d. is fine listening a nice mix of fun and sexy.
