Hardly known south of Hadrian's Wall, Michael Marra is known to his army of Scottish fans as a prolific and talented singer/songwriter. In Candy Philosophy he hits the mark as surely as he has done in all of his other albums.
The ability to move the listener to tears as in This Evergreen Bough and then to make them laugh as in King Kong's visit to Glasgow, is one that few artists possess. He even tries his hand in French with the excellent Johnny Halliday. Every time I've raved about Marra to English friends they've become staunch fans. Candy Philosophy is as good a place to start your Marra collection as any.

Even in Scotland, not too many people know about Michael Marra. In concerts, Michael usually performs alone with a piano, but on this recording, he has a band that includes his younger brother Chris, and a host of other musicians.
Michael's songs are always thoughtful, and demonstrate his deep knowledge of popular song at its best. Usually, he writes in a mixture of English and (Dundee) Scots; in Johnny Hallyday he ventures in French, but in the middle there is a surprise quotation from Burns "Leeze me on thy curly pow".
Buy this record - you will not regret it.
