Very Good Candlestick Primer,

Steve Nison has a simple way of explaing his subject material, which leads to a lot of 'Ah Ha' moments. I own both his previous books and have been studying them intensely. This course, while it naturally covers much of the same ground, is a valuable addendum to those books.I have studied various forms of Technical Analysis (TA) intensely, despite being a Value investor of the Benjamin Graham school. Most forms of TA seem to me to be overly complicated and based on assumptions about the behaviour of charts and mathematical data. Computers have been a wonderful tool for the TA devotee as they have allowed development of ever more complicated forms of analysis, all of them with short histories. Candlestick analysis on the other hand has a successful history of use going back 400 years. It is based on the psychology of people and the various patterns have enormous empirical support. As with any new set of techniques, there is information and jargon to learn which is always a little daunting. In this case the effort is worth it. I have found that by learning Candlestick techniques I am starting to be able to 'read' a chart in much the same way as I would a page of writing. There are other teachers of Candlestick techniques out there but I know of none who do the job as well as Steve Nison. By the way, he was also the first to bring the techniques to the attention of the Western World. My recommendation? By this course first, then his other two books. Follow the course and you will quickly develop a far better understanding of the probable behaviour of markets. The books and materials have more than recovered their cost for me with my investments.

This is an excellent book filled with simple but powerful concepts,explained clearly and concisely. At the end of each chapter there arequestions and detailed answers at the end, which allow you to testyourself and apply your knowledge to reality. Unlike some tradingbooks which claim to make you a millionare overnight this book gives youthe tools you need to help build a succesful strategy related to yourinvestment goals. This book will help you understand candlesticks well, enabling you to tapinto the hugely important psychology of the markets. As Issac Newton oncesaid after losing money in the financial markets "I can predict themovement of heavenly bodies but not the madness of human behaviour"

A job well done...,

Technical analysis has been an interest of mine for some time, and this title was recommended by fellow trading enthusiasts. On reading this book one naturally begins to wonder how can quite simple candlestick patterns (and most are quite simple) make you money consistently. Well the patterns do work, you only have to look at historic charts (many examples are provided in this book) and pick out the same candle combinations Steve illustrates so well, and see their predictive capability. Of course, that isn't the full story, if it really WAS that simple, no one would do any real work and we would all be retired living an idyllic life sustained by a trading income. The reality is that chart patterns are one element of the key to trading success; you have to be able to use them in combination with other tools such as risk management strategies (something Steve only touches on in this book) and Western type analysis methods. Combined together they will give you an edge. Even if you rely on the candlestick formations themselves, these can take on less than classic guise in the real world, so it isn't an exact science.
What this book does nicely, is provide a strong interactive foundation on the meaning of candlestick patterns. It will leave you wanting more (and fortunately there is more, he has written 2 other titles in this area that broaden out the topics he covers here). If you don't know all the basic candlestick patterns, pick this book up first and study it. Its interactive format and numerous example charts will get you very comfortable with analysing candlesticks. A Croft
