Uplifting and Honest Story 5 Sep 2014

I really enjoyed this book. It was a very sincere account of one person's battle with cancer. It made me laugh a lot and even cry a little, but its underlying message of hope and how important it is to maintain a positive attitude through adversity is clear. What I really liked about this book was the author's honesty and his use of humor to help himself and especially the people in his life, cope with the uncertainty of surviving cancer treatment. The author implies that cancer isn't one man on a life boat. He finds strength in his faith with the Lord and comforts those who are near him with his wit and self deprecating humor. The author is honest about his fear of losing his fight with cancer and describes his weakest moments; moments where self pity creeps in. The book reminds the reader how self pity only increases the likelihood of your worst fears coming true. Overall, it shows you're not alone in the life boat and how your attitude (positive or negative) can be contagious.

I have known Jerry Wilson since we played little league baseball together. This book is an amazing story of his battle and victory against cancer two times and shows what a great attitude will do to kick this dreaded disease to the curb. With seriousness and humor Jerry gives everyone food for thought when they hear the words 'You have cancer'.

Great job Jerry, I am anxiously awaiting your next publication.
From laughter to tears 28 Jun 2014

I just finished this book.

It didn't help that I listened to my quiet Christian music as I read, I
began to not want the book to end, because there is a true holy experience in Jerry's
writings about his journey. I went between laughing and crying more than
one time, but his tribute to Scottie (his deceased wife) caused me to loose it. She must have
been a remarkable woman, and his book left me sorry I did not know her any
better than I did. Jerry is obviously a better man for having her in his

This book so effectively captured the authors relationships of husband,
father, son, brother, brother in Christ, and of course child of God. His
honesty and humor was captivating and spoke to me with a clear voice of
humility and humor without loosing sight of the seriousness of having

I am so grateful the author sacrificed the time, and emotional energy to write this book. I am a
better person for reading this book,

I feel blessed to call this man, Jerry Wilson, my friend.
Inspiration, Compassion, Humor 24 Jun 2014
By Wanda J. Ward - Published on
Format: Paperback
An inspirational book written with a mixture of compassion and humor as Jerry Wilson takes you through the darkest moments of his battles against cancer. It will make you smile and it will make you cry as he describes the terrors and the triumphs experienced. One of the charms of this book is that it has obviously been published just the way Wilson wrote it. No polishing by an editor that might have diminished some of the feel of realism. It's a true story written from the heart and one that should be a must read for anyone who is facing the silent killer: cancer. Howard Ward, Carolinas Golf Hall of Fame Reporter
