Most Helpful Customer Reviews

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful By M. Fitzgibbons on 9 Dec. 2010
Format: Hardcover
Canal People gives a no nonsense perspective on the privations of the people working and living on the canals. There are references to canals in north america, however the main thrust is the UK canal systems. I found it to be a compelling read if at times a little bit dry and academic in style. Canal people, does much to debunk the popular theory that living and working on the canals was within a pleasant environment.

I would suggest reading this book before others in the same genre such as Narrowboat by LTC Rolt.
