No, the console and games are based on regions. In the UK I think they use a PAL Wii system and here in the US they use a different system. The remotes, on the other hand, should be universal (like the Doctor Who Wii Screwdriver). I bought a game in Japan and it will not play on my US Wii. I wrote Nintendo and they advised that games from different regions can not play on US Wii's.
Sadly, only hackers and pirates with US Wiis can play this game. Thankfully, the game not being available to throw away hard-earned dollars towards is a blessing... ask a friend with a hacked Wii to try it and let you play it for 10 minutes. You'll thank Nintendo for its vile region coding scheme just this once. (The game reminds me of the worst crap available for the N64, at best)
