One of the better early reader series, vividly illustrated 12 Aug 2010
By Z Hayes - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
The Berenstain Bears series of books in the An I Can Read Book series are engaging, vividly illustrated (a visual treat for children), and the stories have wide appeal for children, an important factor in motivating children to read. Although this book is labeled as a Level 1 reader, I would categorize it more as a Level 2 reader, especially when compared to other early readers, such as the Step Into Reading series of books. There is some higher level vocabulary in here which is a step above the Level One readers in other series.

I think this series of early readers is value for money because the story contained in each book is longer than the average early reader, and the quality of writing is superior. There are illustrations on each page and children, especially visual learners such as my five-and-a-half year old daughter will love reading and perusing the pictures. Highly recommended!

Great Western Reading 8 Sep 2008

This book is wonderful....my grandkids love for me to read to them and they love this book the best.
One of the Berenstain Bears' best 25 April 2012
By W. R. Leibowitz - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
We must have dozens of Berenstain Bear books, and this is one of our favorites.
First, it's well written--the rhymes are natural. It's fun to read aloud, and my daughter can fill in the ends of many lines.
Second, it's INTERESTING--the Bear family goes out West and learns a bit about Western history.
My daughter's favorite page is when Pappa Bear gets thrown by a horse. For her, this was funny.
For those concerned that the Berenstain Bear books are going downhill (the new aquarium book was a wash; avoid the newly religious, preachy ones like "The Berenstain Bears Show Some Respect"), this book will renew your faith, no pun intended, in the strength of the Berenstain Bear books.
