Product Description

Dr Christian Jessen, the unshockable presenter of the hit television shows, EMBARRASSING BODIES and SUPERSIZE VS SUPERSKINNY, is always being tackled by strangers wanting answers to their most private medical questions. Like all doctors, Dr Christian finds people sidling up to him with their questions at parties, on trains, and even in the street. So why don't people ask their own doctors these questions in the more formal setting of the medical surgery? And what are the most common questions?

CAN I JUST ASK...? provides the answers in a fun and informative book that includes:

• urban health myths busted

• advice for common problems we don't like to talk about

• specific sections for male/female health issues, curious facts, sex, diet, medicines, fitness and more

• plenty of surprising facts and figures to help trivia-hungry readers better understand the mysterious workings of their bodies.

Sometimes humorous, often surprising and always informative, this book will answer all your questions, whether you have a worrying health dilemma or just a curious mind!

From the time I bought `Can I Just Ask' yesterday I was hooked. It made my train journey home in the evening fly by! I think it's a fantastic read and deserves all five stars. I would describe it with three words - fascinating, helpful and entertaining. Not only does it have the answers to many questions that could be embarrassing for you to ask your G.P, it's also packed with many fascinating facts about the human body as well as conditions and syndromes. Some of which I've never heard of before! It discusses some long standing myths which were interesting too.

The book is divided into several sections such as questions relating to skin, hair and nails, travel and general health. It also has two chapters discussing men and women's health separately (and many other chapters not listed here!). It's a good book to read all the way through in one go or dip into when you like.

For me personally, it's answered several questions that I've been intrigued to know the answers to for several years! Additionally, I've gained some health advice which has been taken on board and I'm happy to know the answer to.

I do like the style of this book. Although it does include medical terms and physiology, they are well explained and understandable while still being interesting and easily read (unlike some medical texts I've come across in the past!). It's also written with an engaging entertaining style, and you can sense the authors reassuring chair side manner throughout.

Although, not all of the chapters are directly relevant to everyone all the time, I was interested to read on regardless. Defiantly learnt some facts I didn't know before! Since it covers allot of different areas, I think it has an appeal to many age groups and those in different situations (e.g. pregnancy and looking after children or travelling).

Seeing that the author gives good advice on how to manage the health issues discussed, I think it's a good reference book to keep handy at home to grab when you need to look for an answer. It's defiantly going to be at the front of my bookshelf for the foreseeable future. Plus, it's going to help my doctor friends too - by cutting down the time they spend kindly answering loads of medical questions for me ;o). I do hope there is going to be a second `Can I Just Ask' book or even a series Dr. Jessen!

This is a useful home reference book which answers all those odd questions you hesitate to ask your doctor because you're embarrassed or think the question is stupid. It is arranged under various headings - Children, Men's Health, Women's Health etc so you can just dip into it to see if your own particular question is there.

I read it straight through as it is an interesting read for anyone who is fascinated by those strange highways and byways of the human body. The style is easy and conversational - almost like having a doctor sitting beside you and answering your questions.

Obviously if you have any strange symptoms for any length of time you should consult your doctor and this book makes it clear that there are circumstances where the symptoms are nothing to worry about. I was intrigued to learn that we don't breathe through both nostrils at the same time but use them alternately and no one knows why. There are lists of strange facts dotted at intervals throughout the text which I found interesting as well.
