1.0 out of 5 stars Is this a Pirate Copy? 23 April 2013
By Darren
I shall cut to it, as for the Movie it is a typical 80's Slasher Movie! enough said, you like this type of Movie or you don't, your choice!!! But what i want to make a point of is just how Bad the Picture is, it is easily as bad as a VHS to DVD Rip, and a poor VHS copy to begin with! I think this has been Copied from VHS through a Wet Shoe to a Bicycle Pump to Tea Bag then onto DVD! I mean come on!!! I have seen this on VHS many times, and although the picture quality was bad, it was still not this bad! I thought maybe it was just the DVD but no!!!!! because a year later a Friend of mine who also purchased this Movie had the same almost pitch black picture at times problem! This DVD should be withdrawn from sale until a cleaned up version is released, this is no Joke, stay well clear of this!!! A shame to as it was OK, for an early Slasher! Who ever is responsible for this quality of release, must be Hunted down and Stopped for their Crimes towards Movie lovers! they should then be hurled into a 20 ft by 20 ft pit full of half starved blood thirsty ravenous Wolves, to pay for what they have done (SHAME ON YOU WHO EVER YOU ARE!) you will pay for this when i finally find you..............

3.0 out of 5 stars CAMPSITE MASSACRE AKA THE FINAL TERROR 27 July 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase
Campsite Massacre AKA The Final Terror was written by Ronald Shusett, the originator of the chest buster idea in Alien and along with Dan O'Bannon (again) a collaborator on the rewrite of legendary "video nasty" Dead and Buried (1981). It was directed by Andrew Davis (The Fugitive) and stars, amongst others, Rachel Ward and Daryl Hannah. Though completed at the peak of the slasher boom in 1981, Campsite Massacre sat on the shelf until 1983. It's hard to see exactly why, because it is actually a slickly made, if fairly bloodless example of the rural massacre sub-genre.

The plot is straightforward. A group of park rangers and young women come up against a woodland killer. Although the menace turns out to be human, at times Campsite Massacre plays a little like Predator. The killer disappears into the woodland environment by using camouflage, the male guides are organised a bit like a military unit and the ending are oddly similar. My guess is that it was as influenced by Southern Comfort as it was Friday 13Th. There is also an interesting scene featuring mushrooms that prefigures a similar idea in Severance by just over two decades.
The main problem with the film is that it isn't ruthless enough to kill off its characters. They nearly all survive. But, I liked it despite the low body count.

Unfortunately, the quality of this DVD is poor. It comes straight on with a blare of hiss and a murky picture quality that screams VHS rip. In truth my VHS copy has far better sound and a clearer picture. It's also pretty dark. To be fair this is partly due to the way it was filmed. I've given it 3 stars because it is a good film with a sadly deficient presentation.

1.0 out of 5 stars rotten transfer 3 Mar 2009
By JONESY

This film is barely watchable. The transfer is so terribly wobbly and dark that viewing it is not a pleasure which is a shame because it looked quite good ( and Darryl Hannah is in it somewhere in the murk)
