Purchased the Campingaz Thermo Electric Cooler 24 Litre for a road trip to Switzerland. Pre chilled the food and drinks, added a couple of freezer ice packs, plugged it in to the AC/DC transformer which was purchased as an optional extra to enable the chilling process to commence within the home, plugged it into the cigarette lighter when we set off, opened the coolbox on route for breaks, contents were still ice cold when we arrived at Switzerland 12 hours after departing. Really good buy. The product has received some negative remarks from purchasers who have a misunderstanding of the product, it's purpose is to keep food and drinks cold, hence the ice packs, it is not designed to chill from room temperature, it is not a fridge! This is a quality product, it does was it is designed to do when used correctly, a really good investment for travelling and picnics or transporting frozen food in the hot weather. 100% satisfaction...........Cheapest from Amazon!

I have one of these and the slightly larger Campingaz Powerbox 36 Classic Te Cooler and both offer impressive performance and fulfill their promises.

This is a traditional 'cool box' design - ie an insulated plastic crate with lid providing a small cooling fan whereas the Powerbox is more like a mini-fridge with shelves and compartments.

While camping or 'on the road' it can be a battle to keep things cool but this fits perfectly into a footwell and keeps food and drink chilled to 16 degrees below the ambient temperature (the Powerbox is slightly more powerful at 18 degrees below). If your lighter socket isn't live when the engine is switched off then it will stop running - but the box and its contents still remain cool for several hours. This has a tough build and will withstand the bumps and knocks which are inevitable when camping.

It's also good for keeping frozen foods cold when restocking the fridge/freezer on a supermarket run in hot weather when there's a risk of foods rapidly thawing or becoming dangerously warm in a hot car.

A recommended and reliable purchase.

We drove down to Spain last September and this coolbox was worth it's weight in gold. We also put it to use as an extra fridge over christmas which proved a real boon.

This Thermo Electric Cooler is an excellent product. I bought it to use on my yacht and combined with a 12volt mains convertor I can either run it of the ships 12volt supply or off 240V mains shore power when in port. It keeps all products at a nice temperature including beer, wine, and food. A word of warning though don't connect it to the 12volt supply unless you have the engine running as it is a big drain on the battery.

We've used this product once so far in May with varied weather conditions in temperatures no lower than 9 degrees, but not exceeding 22degrees. We used this product with a mains adaptor which we purchased seperately. It was perfect for our needs. We went camping for four days and it provided enough space for the things we needed to keep cool for a family of four. The coolbox was quick to cool before putting produce in it, and during transportation, using the supplied cigarette lighter adaptor, we were able to keep these cool during our journey. It does hum while operating which was noticeable when we went to bed, but not loud enough to disturb our sleep. This item was competitively priced but is the first one we've ever used so can't make any comparisons with other brands.

On the two occasions before when I have travelled to the LeMans 24 hour race for a long weekend with my mates I have had to survive on a diet of greasy (and expensive) burgers and chips from the vendors, or whatever products I have taken in a cool box and have long since warmed up. This time I decided to cook a saucepan of chili at home, freeze it, and pop it in this electric cool box, together with other things like some cheese and beer. We left on the Thursday and, obviously, the electric cool box was only operating while we were driving. However, after the car had spent its time stationary on the ferry and on a warm campsite for a day and a half (during which time the inside of the car seriously warmed up)I came to extract the chili to warm up for our Saturday evening meal - I was amazed to find that although the chili had defrosted it still had some ice on the surface! Because of the "ice pack" effect of the chili, the cheese, beer, etc. were also still very cool. Fantastic !
Given that I would normally be packing a cool box of a similar size it is taking up no extra space. It seems sturdy and well designed. Lets hope that it stays reliable.
Why have I not got one before?

Excellent purchase, i was really impressed with this cooler box. If you are looking for a 12v cooler then this is the one! hardly uses any power and keeps the food and beers well chilled.

I bought this fridge for my mother to use in her caravan. It arrived quickly and we excitedly opened the box. At first I was a little disappointed because insider there was only one shelf and the 12v power lead. I had assumed that because on the description it said removable SHELVES that this meant more than one. Apparently not. I had also wrongly assumed that because this was a 12/240v a 240v adaptor would come with it but again no. That was purely my fault for not reading the description properly. So after plugging the box up and going for a drive I was impressed with how cool the box got but it is quite noisy. At the end of the day its great at keeping things cool.....not so great if you are sat next to it.
