The first thing that strikes you about this guide is how many colour pictures there are of the many different sites featured which is often more useful than a long description in deciding whether a site is right for you and your family. Having said that each entry has all the info you'd expect in a typically thorough Time Out style: Places to eat and drink, things to do, things for kids and other sites nearby (essential when some sites don't do booking in advance in the holidays). There's help in choosing sites as they're categorised by themes like best for walking, places that allow fires, near beaches, tents only etc.
There are smallish sections on camping equipment and tips for camping at festivals and the like that are interesting and well-written. Reading the previous review makes it sound like half the book's taken up with ads but the reality is that there are less than a dozen in a book of over three hundred pages and most of them are for related Time Out books and their website. The entries themselves list good and bad things about sites (eg if it's noisy or windy or if there's only one shower).
The other great thing about this guide unlike some is that it covers England, Wales and Scotland all in one book. Well-worth a look if you're planning camping trips this year.

I should admit that I'm a keen camper and a real fan of the Time Out city guides - so this book was made for me, I think.
This book is so much more than just a list of good campsites; after all, you can get that in the weekend supplements at some point every July. Fully illustrated and with comprehensive information to really help you picture the campsite, this book is excellent.
The reviews lengthy, there is advice on Eating & Drinking nearby, activities and attractions nearby, how to amuse the kids and other campsites nearby in case you can't get a space at your first choice. There are several photos for each entry, both of the campsite, of the facilities and of nearby beaches etc.
My favourite is the box telling you why this would or wouldn't be for you; eg: not for you if you like lots of facilities, perfect if you're a beginner surfer.
Another box tells you how many pitches the site has, what the facilities are, when it's open, if campfires are allowed, cost and how to get there.
Full contact details and OS map reference provided.
