This is a fabulous book. It tells me so much about World War 1 equipment and uniforms. It has been fun and interesting learning about world war 1 uniforms. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK

I like a previous reviewer also found this title somewhat disappointing, as an advanced collector myself the book did seem to lack the detail for which I was hoping. The quality of the book is very good but at the price it should be and also it only deals with one year of the War. It’s what is actually inside that doesn’t deliver for me. I do not plan to buy any future books from this series's unless they they turn out to be a significant improvement on this one.

A long overdue photographic examination of actual uniforms and equipment of the British soldier of the Great War - and one that is extremely well done.

Other books have trod the path to an extent - John Bodsworth's and Stephen J Chambers's spring to mind. Bodsworth's is comprehensive, but has errors and the production quality - for the price - is poor.

Chambers's is unimpeachable in terms of its content, yet is a compilation of period photos that don't offer the necessary detail of real artefacts that modern photography can.

The production quality is very good indeed too. I also like the chronological approach, as look forward to following the evolution of accoutrements and garb through the war.

Only gripe is that it would have benefited from a good proofreading. Not that there are errors affecting the accuracy of the text - as far as one can tell - just a number of grammatical and literal clunkers that one would have expected an editor to have spotted at a 1000 yards.

No matter: the gripe is minor.

This is a very good book, at a very good price and an essential purchase for the student or collector of the British army in WW1.

An absolute mine of information. The book itself is quite substantial. The content is in a class of its own. The photographs are excellent. The information in the text is in depth and very detailed. Although the price appears to be rather steep, the book itself warrants this as it compares with having your own personal specalist at your side whilst you are reading it. I cannot wait for the other publications in this series, and after all, it is less than £1.00 per week to save for the next installment. An ideal reference book for anyone interested in artefacts from this period in history.

Not really sure why, but I was generally a little disappointed with this particular book, it is a bit of a coffee table edition for the curious rather than a detailed book for the student of the Great War, I was expecting more content. Having said that, the actual print quality of this book is excellent as are the photos, which are superb and admittedly cover some areas missed out by other authors. Overall it is very good, but I cannot help feeling at the price it should well be, particularly as it's covering only the first year of the war.
