Product Description

Product Description

A Ernest Glen (1896-1986) was a life-long ship enthusiast and photographer, beginning both hobbies as a youngster in the 1900s. His legacy is a vast collection of remarkable negatives and colour slides spanning nearly eighty years - from Edwardian pleasure steamers to modern car ferries. Until the publication of this book, these have remained unpublished. In this album, Ernest's daughter, Ann Glen and his grandson, Bruce Peter have selected well over two hundred of his photographs of steamers and ferries on the River Clyde and in the Western Isles.

Great book with wholy new pictures for me, and I've got a good few books on Clyde Steamers. Covers from Edwardian period right up to the current Jupiter in 1974.

This is a lovely book for all of us who remember tthe great days of the Clyde. It is full of superb phorographs, mostly unknown to me. The only minor reservation is that some pictures are spread across two pages so there is the spine in the middle and some pictures are very small. But overall it is a treasure.

Camera on the Clyde 28 Dec 2011
A most enjoyable book. I couldn't quite fathom the order of the subjects, but as a delightful collection to savour, it was fine. The quality of reproduction is good, and some little-photographed ships are included, with some pleasingly unusual angles of ships actually at work rather than still-life. Covers a long period, ending with valuable colour pictures of things as they were upriver.
