A superb live album showcasing the finest era of Camel, 16 Nov 2000

This review is from: Camel a Live Record (Audio CD)
This album features great reworkings of early and mid period Camel favourites such as Never Let Go (much funkier than the original, and with superb sax playing), Song Within A Song, and Lady Fantasy (a truly excellent interpretation). In addition, it includes a faithful rendition of the whole of The Snow Goose, complete with orchestra- one of Camel's finest works. It thus represents superb value for money and is a great introduction to one of the finest progressive bands ever. If you like Pink Floyd, Supertramp and Dire Straits, you'll love this. Check it out!

Philharmonically Phenomenal, 4 July 2001

This is without doubt one of the best pieces of music I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. I had this on vinyl 20 years ago, and enjoyed it then, I have the Snow Goose CD, and while the studio version is good, this version with the London Philharmonic gives the music the space and breadth and interpretation it needs. The band is on top form throughout, and the arrangement is stellar. Send goosebumps down your spine. The bonus is the first CD, live versions of some of Camel's better known tracks from the early years (pre-75), which are excellent, but the star is the 45 minutes of live Snow Goose - just incredible. This band may well live to be more famous now than in its heydey. Pete Bardens (keys) is still around doing stuff -- and remember that back when this lot was recorded, keyboard technology is not what it is today! Andy Latimer is such a great guitarist, and often overlooked because he wasn't a shredder. Every note counted and contributed musically and he plays some of his best ever on this CD. I read in a recent interview that Satch grew up listening to this too, and holds Latimer in high regard as a music composer and guitarist, and well deserved. If you are looking for something in a classical vein, played by a rock band, and executed emotionally and perfectly, this is for you. You will wonder why Camel are not huge.

A Great Way To Hear The Best of a Great Band, 3 Feb 2000

I bought this 2-CD set for the second cd, the live performance of The Snow Goose. And, my God! I get Goose Bumps every time I listen to it! This live version is far superior to the ( nonetheless ) excellent studio recording. Just a beautiful piece of music. The first CD is good, but the music on it is nothing compared to Snow Goose.

Truly Excellent Listening, 9 Sep 1999

What can one say, what excellent muscicianship by all the members of this long forgotten band. Andy Latimers guitar work is outstanding. Mel Collins Sax work is also not to be forgotten. If you are a Snow Goose fan this is the album to have in your collection. If you're not a fan try it anyway - you'll probably come to love it! If anyone knows how to get a copy of the video made of this concert - in NTSC format "I would love one"
