'Clunies Ross manages to provide just the sort of introduction to the sagas that any teacher of Old Norse (among those whose interest in the subject transcends the merely linguistic, at least) would wish their students to read, in a compact, accessible and attractively priced volume.' Saga-Book

Format: Paperback
After 2 great Icelandic holidays I tried to read translated Icelandic sagas including Nyal's Saga , supposedly the best . Incomprehensible & confusing - rural farmers from the Middle Ages just don't think or write in a way understandable by an average modern Londoner . Margaret Clunies Ross' book groups all the sagas by 7 categories , explains the differences in types & gives their social/religious background . Finally it makes sense !
However I had to use an online dictionary to understand dozens of the English words - Prosimetrical for example . You really have to want to understand the sagas the buy this , but it is worth it .
