This volume is highly recommended for a crash course in committed Orthodoxy,
but you'll want to take it slow. The reason for taking it slow isn't because
it's too dense or dry -- rather, it's so rich that you need to savor it.
The only reason I've knocked off a star is because there's no chapter on the
place of the Theotokos and all the saints in Holy Orthodoxy (although of course
the saints are mentioned in many of the chapters). Also, I found the chapter
on the spiritual way to be the weakest, which is too bad, because there is nothing
comparable to the depth of Orthodox spirituality (although the list provided for
further reading ensures that readers will find the path if they pursue it). Some
of the strongest chapters are by Sister Nonna on the human person as image and
likeness of God and by Father Andrew Louth on the patristic revival...Read this when
you're ready for comprehensive nourishment for your journey in the Church -- and God bless!
