Product Description

With an improved power supply and smoother styling, the Cambridge Audio 551P sharpens up a classic phono stage.NEW ECO FRIENDLY POWER SUPPLYBased on the award-winning 540P, the 551P offers an improved power supply that will save you money. Whereas the old 540P was powered up continuously, the 551P features a facia mounted power switch. It's a simple feature but one that helps save power.FRESH NEW LOOKWith a more rounded lid and front panel plus a bold new design for the Cambridge Audio logo, the 551P matched the latest generation of Cambridge Audio amplifiers and other electronics. As before, the build quality and finish is exceptional for a budget phono stage. The front panel is aluminium and the casing all-metal, with the fixing bolts hidden at the bottom and back for a clean look.SAME GREAT PERFORMANCEThe high quality Moving Magnet design features single-ended 'Class A' gain stages and discrete transistors instead of the more common integrated circuits. This gives less cross-talk and interference across the signal path. The 551P employs an active RIAA equalisation system. In terms of sound quality you'll notice less background noise and more detail. The rear panel benefits from gold plated input connectors to minimise signal path interference and reduce surface degradation.Make your vinyl sound its best with the Cambridge Audio 551P

Provides a pre-amp for turntables with moving magnet cartridges. That's all it does, so the only thing to comment on is the quality of the sound it produces. To these ears, the sound is rich and vibrant, with clear separation between the instruments and a warm bass tone.

This pre-amp is so good at transmitting the true sound from my old LP collection. The stereo separation and track detail is brilliant. I bought it to go with my recently purchased Pioneer record deck, so I can play back my records, and save them to my PC. I noticed the difference in sound quality when I compared it with the battery powered pre-amp that came with the vinyl-to-pc software I have. These are quite cheap units (approx £15), and to be honest, there is no comparison, so that's in the recycle bin! I couldn't even hear some of the track detail, but with this Cambridge unit, it picks out everything. It also sounds amazing if you can hook it up between your record deck and hifi receiver, which I have done with my Denon receiver and Kef speakers. Awesome!!
Excellent pre-amp.
Highly recommended.

if you love your vinyl records buy this , how does it work.to me its a filter ,i done a test run before i used the pre-amp ,i have a single which i got off a jukebox in the 1980's its scratched to hell at the start for one minute crackels, bangs, pops,i then fitted the pre-amp ,95% of the crap has been filtered which amazed me,i have had this just over a week and i am very pleased with it . tubular bells and war of the worlds sounds amazing , the instruments that you can hear are clear and crisp ,the pre-amp is that good i have turned down the trebel and bass . i do play music quite loud ( just got a set of mission speakers) still bedding them in . i would recommend this iterm to all vinyl lovers, bring back the good olds days when music was real music .....

Even without being 'run in' for 36 hours, this piece of kit sounds utterly beautiful amplifying classical LP signals from a 25 year old Dual turntable, through a Marantz MCR610 to Mission Cyrus speakers. Streets ahead of most built-in phono stages in integrated amplifiers, and apparently with some kind of surface noise filtration. Even if you already have an mid-range amp with a phono stage, this is well worth looking at running into an aux input in order to improve the sound.

Update.
After a week of running in, this is just awesome, but benefits from being warmed up.
